Variable Boot Floor Removal/Fitting

Featured Replies

I have at last located a variable boot floor. Anyone know how it comes out-side rails really and what keeps them in place when they are put back in?

Have checked site for threads but removal/installation not clear.

First job I had to do when I got my car was to temporarily take out the VBF so I could remove the dog guard that was fitted - didn't seem much point as I don't have a dog...

To remove the VBF you first have to take off the folding floor which requires the two silver 'hooks' located about 2/3rds of the way towards the back seats to be unscrewed - the floor section can then be lifted out leaving just the side rails.

The rails are removed by turning the two large silver securing rings counter clockwise (one each side, fit over the hooks nearest the rear of the car), the other end of the rails are located by a tab (again one each side) below the rear seat backs. So you lift the rearmost end of the rail upwards above the boot lip and pull out.

As they say in all the best maintenance manuals, re-assembly is the reverse of removal!

Hope this is helpful.

Many thanks. Are the hooks at the back you refer to like lashing hooks for securing loads? Do the front tabs fit into a socket. I ask because my car seems to have a hole in the carpet for something to be inserted but no socket. It might be that I cannot fit retro.

Once again my thanks

Yep, the hooks are also for securing loads - there is an identical set further forward (just behind the wheel arches).

Can't actually remember whether there is a 'socket' as such for the tab to locate in - it's a few months since I did it. I'll have a look in the daylight tomorrow.

Not really visible without taking the VBF out again (which due to the amount of, ahem, vital equipment in there is not really practical at the moment), but a check of the workshop manual does confirm that there are brackets below the seat backs into which the side arms locate.

If it's helpful I can email you the appropriate page from the manual with the exploded diagram (drop me a PM).

Hi ccs-digital

Thought I would let you know that got a VBF from Skoda dealer at discount and delivered to my home in the price. Not as cheap as factory fitted but a good discount. Have fitted it and it looks as if it was always part of the car.. Your diagram was very useful as the fitting instructions were sparse. Many thanks.

Good stuff. It's amazing how much stuff you can get under there - and it offers added security too.
