Exhaust pipe sizes

Featured Replies

hi guys, i've just been driving down the road and after a large bang my rear silencer fell off...

the exhaust that is on there is the standard 1.3 mpi system which has a 42mm pipe at the front joining to where the catalyst normally goes, and it goes down to 40mm where the cetnre and rear boxes join up..

i've just been having a quick squiz at ebay and it appears that the diesel model has a 50mm front pipe, going down to 45mm where the centre and rear pipes join up

can you see where i'm going with this??

with the 1.6 16v engine on the near horizon i though someting a little different from normal was in order anyway, possible graft in a diesel centre pipe to my 16v manifold and cat, remove the centre silencer and replace it with a piece of straight pipe, then join it to a diesel rear silencer???

can anybody confirm the sizes of the pipes for me? also i believe that the centre section on the pickup is exactly the same as the hatch and estate models?? but the rear section is unique to the pickup right?

p.s it sounds awesome without the rear silencer on there :wonder: got to be worth at least another 100bhp :giggle:

yes sounds about right the diesel uses 50mm, and better flowing silencers, the pickup does use unique rear box but better off keeping centre box and having straight thru rear pipe

do they meet the noise level regs without a rear silencer?? remember this is a road going hack, not a rally legend :giggle:

depends how hard you rev it i suppose.. you could always put a small cherry bomb type rear silencer on the rear to help..

rally cars have to be less than 100 DB at 4500rpm
