Out of interest, I know there are many "on dash" Radar detectors, but is there anything more discreet? Something that looks like a more OEM solution where a little sensor for example installs on the dash board and integrates with the car a bit better?
I think I will drop an email to Fiscon, as it wouldn't be hard to develop with their talents.
Can you imagine a Fiscon unit, which integrates radar detection with the Maxidot e.t.c. :D :D :D

Actually expression of interest... I have just emailed Fiscon - I think I will start their market research for them in the hope this thing gets developed...
Would you buy an "integrated" speed camera detector that integrated with your Maxidot, if it was priced sensibly, say the same as a Fiscon bluetooth kit?

1) your idea will never work - they are going to change the law to stop detectors being used, in favour of a gps based system
2) would require heafty investment which just now is just not going to happen
3) limited market = low sales = high price to reclaim investment
4) legality problems and warrenty issues unless its approved by vag them selfs

OK; I take your points on board; and realise that this is a controversial subject so I'm treading carefully....
1) OK - this is fine; then have a GPS system that updates itself via. GSM or whatever the replacement technology is; but rather than outputting to a display; outputs to the Maxidot.
2) Will require some investment, but then someone like Fiscon already has large sunk investments in understanding how to interface with the Maxidot; and leveraging that existing development by developing a different technology platform which shares commonality with the existing products they manufacture would seem to be a smart move? Furthermore, they could probably build on an existing platform, say your generic manufacturers like Road Angel; and combine it with Fiscon know-how to make a solution that integrates seamlessly with the vehicle.
3) As it is a solution that works across VAG cars; even if there is a small percentage of owners that are interested, then there is money to be made - look at it this way; they are making good cash out of flogging Bluetooth kit, when the OEM already makes a number of ridiculously similar kits.
4) Well; legality problems - there are already units that are out there; I have no idea of the legal position or how they are creatively marketed, but clearly they are already sold. Warranty issues; well that doesn't stand up as there are plenty of VAG cars out of warranty, and presumably anything like their existing bluetooth kit already invalidates your warranty.
As it happens, I don't own a camera detector of any kind; I do just drive sensibly and keep my eyes peeled; but on an island of finite size with ever increasing numbers, I can see an argument for them.

search ebay for a road angel laser detector, it be a small black box with red leds on the front. then from road angel (think you have to ring them up for it as its not on their site) ask them for a number plate laser senser and extension lead. The sensor can be fitted to your lower grill with the help of a cable tie and wired into the car where if you take out your ashtray can slot in the road angel unit along with the wires and is out of sight. it can be removed easily if need be and no need for loads of holes.

I have a BEL 975 LR built into my Mk1. It's pretty old now, but works well on mobile GATSO camera traps which is the main threat here.
