Question about "Classic" models

Featured Replies

Hi People,

Following my experiences with my sons Felly, I have been thinking about getting one myself as a runabout; I want a post-facelift model and I want the more powerful 68BHP engine; but I am confused by the final "run-out" models specifications.

I always assumed that they would have the 68 BHP engine, not the weedy 54BHP, but an advert I read last night mentions a 99 plate Classic with 54BHP engine.

Is the ad wrong or do I have to go for an older Gli/Glxi to get the power I want??

(Mind you, another ad I read mentioned a 2.5 TDI 163 SE as a Felly model!!!) :p

OH yes, and when did the government change the road tax rules, will buying a V,W or X plate cost me more in road tax??

I don't know specifically, but it is possible that some were 135, not 136 engines (40kW instead of 50kW) - certainly I've broken a couple of 135MPi machines, but these were earlier rather than later (R reg or so).

Road tax didn't change til 2001 - Y reg (Mar 01 on) is the first year of the new tax. My 01 Diesel Focus costs me £125 a year to tax; the T reg one I had was £195. Nice surprise when I bought it.

Thanks, I know the 68bhp version goes like stink, thats why I want one!!

Mines a classic too. Not the word I would have chosen, but there you go.

I have the 135 engine I believe as the 136 has a yellow painted Skoda emblem on the engine block by the cam follower cover. I think the 135 is the 54bhp engine, although it only feels like 2 ponies sometimes.

on another note, mine came with an anti-roll bar too. not sure if this is normal with a 1.3mpi?

Maybe it's so the car can cope with the massive increase in power between the 54 and 68 bhp models. :giggle:

I had noticed an anti-roll bar on my sons; but didnt know if this was part of the felly make over or part of the more powerful engine set-up

All Favorits and Felicias except the 1.6 petrols and diesels will drop into the lower of the 2 capacity-based tax bands.

heres a link to parkers guide to all the different spec levels, shows the classic as a 68bhp parkers felly guide

Thanks, I dont know how I missed that when I was looking for information!!!!!

It would appear that I have 68 horses to unleash then.

But Parkers also say the felicia stopped production in Feb 2000. Mine was registered after that and there are also X registered Felicias aren't there.

They also give a 42mpg figure. Ha bloody ha.

They may have shipped them late; I have seen other makes with reg plates 2 years after production ceased.

I am not so sure about the bhp figures though; my son currently has an LXi, and there is no way it is as powerful as the Gli; it feels more like the 54bhp engine; but Parkers say it is the 68bhp.:wonder:

Look on the ECU, there's a label that says either 50kW or 40kW.

I will when he visits next, he lives with his mother 45 miles away.

(and dont suggest HE looks; he is not that bright!!)

Oh, I wouldn't, I remember what happened before!

my friend has a 56 plate rover, even though rover went bust in 2005!!!!!!

servicing, how well it looked after etc will make it feel slower or faster, but my 54bhp version was a hell of a lot difference to the 68bhp i got now! if you drive both one after the other you realy notice the difference,

He had (and crashed) a 68bhp version, and we went and got the replacement 36 hours later; it really struggled to climb the hills out of Bath on the way home; whereas the previous car went like a rocket (hence him crashing it!!)

Mine doesn't really struggle on hills, in Bath or anywhere really. Mind you, so far ir's only been me in in it.

It's not as nippy as my Scenic, even when it's fully loaded, but then that's got 120bhp.
