My 59 plate FL VRS 170 CR rad fans are running on 5 minutes approx. after a 2-3 mile journey , the Temp gauge is reading normal at 90deg as per normal.Anybody have any thoughts or ideas
what could be causing this, it started yesterday. Your help/input would be appreciated.

Could it be running a particulate filter regeneration? I've pulled up at work (admittedly after 20miles) and the fans have been running after driving on the dual carriage way where I would of thought there would be plenty of cooling. This has been with a burning smell I guess from the regen. Starting the engine and blip of the throttle to shift the coolant around and the fans go off. Alternatively could it be the fans running for the aircon? (no idea if the fans helps the aircon or not).

If it is a regen, the idle speed will also be higher than normal.

Because the regen works by increasing the exhaust temp by adding extra fuel, then the fans run as well.

My 59 plate vRS CR has done this a few times too recently. Admittedly once was when I stopped at the top of the Buttertubs pass near Hawes, so that could possibly be expected (I hadn't been thrashing it though, and the temp guage was showing 90C, forgot to check the oil temp on the maxidot . It did smell hot too, so possibly doing a regen). But It has also done it once after a 5 min run from cold to the shops and back. There's enough coolant in the tank and the temp gauge isn't going high, so I'm just keeping an eye on mine at the moment, but any likely causes other than the DPF regen would be useful to know!

Did you have your aircon on?

I know that my old fiesta did this, when ever the aircon was on the radiator fan kicked in quite often.

Just an idea.

Mine also after a 10 mile drive, steady and in stop / start traffic and also smelt 'hot' , temp guage normal , no aircon on at time. ( 59 plate Vrs 170 CR )

My 2010 FL CR VRS with 5000 miles on the clock did this for the first time today. I initially thought there was an aeroplane overhead when I switched off, until I got out of the car, then it became obvious the aeroplanes had competitionhttp://briskoda.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/emoticon-0140-rofl.gif. Both radiator fans were running, and carried on for several minutes.

This was after a drive of less than 2 miles through town, so it wouldn't even have been up to temp.
AC was on, as it usually is, and it was warm today (but hardly tropical), so really didn't expect it to do this after so short a run, and why hadn't it done it before after many similar runs?

Mine has done it once after a trip to work.

My commute is 32 miles, M4 and dual carriageway. Wasn't caning it - can't first thing in the morning - too much traffic!

Have had my car for 2 weeks now and have 990 on the clock.

Its the DPF on its regeneration cycle, idle speed is increased during this and you will probably also notice a nasty burning smell around the back of the car when you park up. Its all perfectly normal although strangely some dealer's service depts are still unaware of this cycle.
