Project "everything in the wheel well"

Featured Replies

This is going to be a fun "extra" project for the summer sometime.....

Battery is being clamped down in there and I plan to run tyre-weld instead of a spare (might take a spare on real long journies just in case of a blow-out)

Soooo, imagine a battery clamped down in the boot - I want to create a kind of structure to be able to keep bits & bobs in there - essentially this structure will need an outside of a similar size to the outside dimensions of a tyre (for obvious reasons.....) and then somehow portion into 2 small half circles allowing for the battery to sit in the middle.....

Any thoughts? Almost thought about hacking a slick 205/40 R17 I have here, but think that would add too much weight. Would like to keep it down a bit.

I know someone who did something similar - battery and other electronics in the wheel well.

They used just used filler foam in a black bag so that it formed around the items without sticking to them or the wheel well.

Do you know anybody that can Fibreglass?

Not sure I want it that posh, but its an idea. Would still need a basic structure to mould around, and I think you're thinking like me, a tyre could be used?

This is my amateur mock-up in paint :D It will be a lot busier, but the frame in blue is what I want to try and create. I may end up just installing battery, pad around it, coat the sides of the wheel well in something plasticky/foamy, and just shove stuff in.

that looks a canny badge design for front grill... :giggle:

Put a large bin bag in to the wheel well and mould your fibreglass in to the bin bag.

You wont get a better fitting unit than a replica of the wheel well.
