Nice afternoon out - spoiled..........

Featured Replies

I'm quite an active member of ClubPolo (as I have been with the forum since it start & one of the 3 founders!) and we normally have a get to gether once a month to have some food and a good laugh. My Polo currently has no exhaust - and is slowly killing me every time I take it out! So for this meet I thought I take the VRS to the meet.

So arranged a babysitter as my wife was working and heading out about 2.30 to take the car to the jetwash to give it a quick blast with the plain cold water to get rid of the dirt before taking it to my parents for a good bucket of Meguiars. While I was at the jet wash I found a stone chip on one of my new Alloy wheels - A STONE CHIP! Raging!

If that was enough to pi55 in my coffee - finally met up with everyone. Got to where we were going for pictures to find that someone has stolen 3 out of 4 of my dustcaps.

And now the best bit - near Cumbernauld there is a 40mph limit on the dual carriage way due to an upgrade of the carriageway. I was following a truck that decided to flick up a stone about the size of my fist, bounced off the road just in front of me and then land gracefully right in the middle of my windscreen - breaking it!

Anyone else have one of them kinds of days or is it just me?????????

Sorry to hear that :(

I had a day of fail the other week where I kerbed one of my alloys (which I've just finished paying for), and scraped the front bumper on a rock reversing out of my garage!.

At least you have others to blame for your car damage :(

Yup, I had an epic fail day last week, my car was scraped on the bumper by an anonymous car, I now need a new windscreen and to top it all off, I went to check the oil and as I let the bonnet back down the pull thingy to release it fell out of the grill onto the floor, split off by the bonnet catch. emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

Not good.....not good

Ben

Ouch! :( At least it wasn't your fault, and you weren't harmed! :)

It is a horrible feeling, though. The third day I drove my car to work, I found some eejit in a Daewoo Matiz had clipped the rear bumper reversing in behind me, taking a line of 3 small chunks of paint off, all right down to the plastic. God knows how they managed it - the marks were between the rear wheel and the rear bumper bump-strip, and the space behind me was about 30 feet long!

Maybe it was a sign to say you should have stayed at home and looked after the bairn instead of selfishly satisfying your own craven Polo urges? Maybe the baby would have liked to spend some quality time with his dad? :wonder:

Hahaha!

Dude, this is disgraceful news... 3 missing dust caps kinda pales in comparison to a fist (ooh err) sized rock landing on your windscreen... Hope you get it sorted quickly.

A few weeks after I got the car I had a golf ball size piece of rock bounce down the carriageway at me. So annoying as I could see it coming but there was nothing I could do to stop it chipping the windscreen. I was pretty impressed it didn't break TBH.

Hope you get yours sorted soon.

Oh dear, makes you wonder why you bothered going out!

Yes - last night smashed into something at 70mph in the dark, couldn't avoid it as on dual carriageway with traffic, looked and felt like a small fridge, almighty bang, got home and found no sign of damage though. But then managed to drive into a large metal security gate while I was parking, turned into it on the drivers side :giggle: Again cannot see any damage despite a loud clank.

I expect something will fall off in the next few days though.

I dont drink or smoke, I have never taken drug - all i spend my spare money on is my kids and my car. Whats wrong with having one afternoon to myself! :p

I cleaned my windscreen the other day, its almost frosted with the amount of surface chips lol had 3 repairs and a new windscreen done in about 12 months I think it is... sucks

Hopefully you're fully comp and you'll just have to pay a small excess if its new screen time?

I went to my gf's parents house in london with my previous car with nice metal dust caps and valve stems... one night, GONE! frickin annoying. I bought some locking ones after that, although my fabia rolls with just plastic ones

i had a similar day, but instead of having 3 things, mine was just one big one. I was heading home down a back road, with literally no curbs, except for the bit of bend that i had taken slightly too tight due to the C**K who had full beam on in my face. The result of this corner taking was a loud bang followed by me straddling the white line in the middle of the road, and also me crying when i got home and realise it had ripped all the paint apart from 6" off my newly painted black wheels. impressed i was not! :(

Sorry to hear that mate, touch wood I havent really had any bad luck with the VRS yet!

I didn't realise parents weren't allowed time to themselves !!

Anyhow, makes a change from you hitting deer i guess :p

And fingers crossed thats your bad luck for the year. Are you able to touch up the wheel ?

Nothing at all. I'm only jealous 'cause i'd never get a weekend day off ;)

yes - got a paint code - its a peugeot paint color!!!!!!!!!!

And now to cap things of I got stuck on a speedbump at wotk and shattered my cat choking my exhaust in the polo and making it stall as soon as the revs go above tickover - and so follows the recovery driver swearing about youngsters with lowered cars!

Well at least you still have one valve cap, I 've never been to Cumbernauld - wife will not let me - hope they don't flatten it before I get there as its the subject of many jokes it must be seen!

Valve caps, my daughter is a primary school teacher and she parks her Ibiza near the school. She bought a new set of tyres from Costco and they do the good old "fill them with nitrogen" thing, and just to prove it fit green valve caps - that is not good as naughty little boys do tend to need them more than you as they are very trade-able for swops, her ones only lasted a few days - then the penny dropped "what have you got there boys?" they had some strange local name for them - but they were valve caps - she gave them a bit of firm education! I gave her a set of crappy black ones - they stayed on - that was her previous car. Now the boys are so admiring of her new Ibiza SC in Candy white with 17" alloys that they show respect by not touching her valve caps - so buying a new car was well worth it!

My daughter's set of three troubles last week were, chipped section of paint at edge of bonnet caused by lifting the wipers to clear snow and ice - a poor Seat design on the new Ibiza "always select service position before lifting the wipers" - that seems to include when they are frozen onto the glass?!? - next was washer bottle top jumps off and lets crap into the strainer section - next was discovered by me, rear O/S tyre flat - if you can describe a 215/40 tyre as being like that - nice shiny screw on edge of wall - Goodyear Excellance 215/40 X 17 87V XL - this is not a tyre that is currently stocked and most tyre chain places could not even order in a new one, good old "Mytyres" to the rescue - hopefully.

One other single bad story, a numpty at work claims that he was in his front garden when a spitful crow picked up a stone and dropped it on the roof of his new Civic from a "good" height = dented roof and bare metal showing - lovely, but does this really happen to some people? He was last seen heading for a "chip remover" place and expecting a miracle for pennies!

chip & dent remover places dont do roofs or bonnets!

Update on crappy week:-

New CAT for the Polo £196 at trade from my mate that works at a motorfactors! Oh and the stone chip is now a 6 inch long question mark shaped crack in the centre of my screen - so no longer a repair, but a complete replacement inc a charge of £75 excess

Oh and my washing machine exploded & my wife just got turned down for a job!

Could anything else possibly go wrong this week?

Hopefully things will get better and this run of bad luck is only a blip

  • 2 weeks later...

Dont know about a day of bad luck.................mine is turning into a month!

i have a time served o4 plate vrs with 110k on clock, my job recently changed, so i now no longer travel 100 miles a day to work! (5 miles now)

So, i sat here thinking last month what should i do, do i get another vrs, or do i spend and improve her! i decided to improve, so i start looking at what i want to do.

The very next day, i was driving down the A1m when a lorry very courteous pulled out in front, directing a nice sized rock at my windscreen!.....chiptastic! i remained calm!

i finally arrived home and decided to wash my car, upon discovering not only did damage the windscreen, but also the pillar as there seems to be some paint missing (about the size of a 5p coin)

the next day, when i finished work, noticed my back bumber had sprayed out at the edges where it meets the rear quarters, to then discover a sideways motion scuff about 1/3rd of my bumper! - now im miffed!

that weekend i went to newark for a nite out with friends (not drinking) taxi's too much so i drove! by the end of the nite sum wazzack had key'd it down to metal!!!!! now im steaming!

Sunday came, car did not leave garage!!!

monday morning on the way to work, hit a pot hole, chip in screen went to a crack! made a call to get it replaced! booked in a week l8r (earliest appointment)

a week went passed, screen got replaced. on my way home the following evening, another lorry followed by another stone,....................yes another chip!!!!!!! wot are the odds!! 2 screens in a few days! i laughed!

2 days later, turbo failed, so made some calls, got a turbo fitted the following weekend! Ker-ching!

AS if owt else could happen......or so i thought!

on my way home, i hit a so-called pothole (crater wud be more appropriate, big enuf to swallow a 16" wheel!!!) just after a nice tight corner! i said nothing!!! ..................too busy trying to avoid a head on with only 3 wheels!

so on went the spare, only to discover my front shock was errrrrr.......... shocked! so i pushed the fog lamp back in, did my best to secure front bumper! and limped it home! (2miles) a very long 2 miles!

So............ is it a sign to get shut? or that my car wants to stay out and play, never to go home!

or simply...........never buy a red car!

So if anyone could help, im looking for sum new wheels, new suspension, any suggestions as to what types etc

I ****ing hate pot-holes

with a passion

Not in the VRs but ...

Last year I was off on my motorbike (my other toy), to a rally. Everything packed bike style; tent on the seat, sleeping bag and clothes in the top box.

Close top box and and a few seconds later I am amazed to hear a psssssss sound from within.

That ladies and gentlemen was the sound of a tin of tyre-weld discharging its contents throughout me worldly possessions....

Hey everyone, as we`re talking about cracked windscreens and all sorts of other annoying damage to our cars just out of interest how much would a replacment windscreen be for an octy VRS. I was travelling down the M6 yesterday and a BMW X5 went flying past and threw up a huge stone/rock and it`s caused a 7 inch crack in the windscreen. To say i was angry would be an understatement :@

All the best

Phil
