Skoda wanted to use RS on their rally cars but Ford already had the right to use RS so Skoda added a v in front of RS to get around this.

Hence vRS and not RS

and the v is supposedly for "victory" after said Ford took Skoda to court for use of the RS logo and Skoda won. :) (or were forced to change it, not sure :D)

Where's the thanks button when you need it...

'v' means "Ford had somehow managed to copyright the letters 'RS' in the UK so we needed to change it" (but not in other markets, hence why the UK is "special" in that respect)..

Interesting! The vRS badge seems to be ubiquoitous - it's the same here in Sweden - but the model is known (and marketed by Skoda/VAG Sweden) as simply RS.

Can't understand how Ford managed to monopolise the RS abbreviation, though :(

Why all this *******ing about the RS badge ?.Kia made a panel van named Pregio and one of the models was an RS,it had no fancy trim,or firm suspension,or any bodykits or a bigger engine, thy just named it RS,even toyota had a version of it's Yaris as the RS,in europe it was the yaris sport or whatever but in Japan it was sold as the Vitz RS.

Not wanting to be (too) controversial but I always thought the 'v' stood for 'victor' or 'viktor' as opposed to victory.

No doubt in saying that it may have got translated into English as victory though?

John999boy is right it is Victor Rally Sport

It means my car is better than yours!

So - Nobody knows for sure then? emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

The correct meaning of vRS is victor rally sport, as already quoted.

Skoda wanted to use the RS logo (ford) to take on the ford brand in Skoda's performance vehicle on the market,

Ford did take them to court but with having the v infront of the RS then it is a new logo and Skoda won.

I asked this question while down at Milton keynes National Learning Centre VAG Group.

I was also told the Seat range has the FR performance range, this is to take the Honda Type R performance range also.

The reason behind this is they didnt want to give them the GTi badge as Volkswagen use this.

Audi use the S line range to take on BMW M powered range.

I hope this helps.

My favourite is - Virtual Rocket Ship!!

Just been trying to research this more and found an uncorroborated suggestion that the V stands for Vrchlabi which is a main Skoda plant that celebrated it's 100th Annniversary in May last year.

So much for a Skoda forum....

The 'V' is a two fingered saluté to ford who tried to stop them using it in the UK, hence why it is Fabia RS everywhere else!

Basically its **** you ford
