Superb II - LED Front DRL's

Featured Replies

Hi All - I passed by a Superb on the way home from work last week which had LED lights in the outer section of the fog lamps. The lights were in a circular pattern approx 2" in diameter and looked really well. Searched online for info, but to no avail. Called my local dealer who knew nothing about such an option. Would any of you guys be able to help me out?

Pretty sure it's retro fit, but i could be wrong of course.

These look cack imo, whatever car they are fitted to, it's like an 18 yr old's mod attempt, hey everybody notice me etc, I know they're becoming law soon, but they still look like some **** who drives on fogs all the time.

Skoda Combi TV ad shows these day time lights see ad here

These should do the trick;

and are canbus proof?? (so no error on dashboard and they keep burning?)

They state 21W and appear to have some circuitry under the LED's.

You really won't know until you plug them in though which is why at £9 for the pair it's a better gamble.

The bulbs on EBay seem the safer option in case the switch out is unsuccessful £££££. Are the DRL bulbs in the Superb Combi on the Youtube advert LED's?

Answer CEO

It's COE (not CEO)

and they are talking about led stripes not replacing the DayLightbulb with a Led

Day time running lights are a result of an EU Directive ans by member-state consensus the ECE R48 defines dedicated daylight running lamps which will be required for all new motor vehicles conforming to ECE R87 beginning 2011. The mandatory daylight running lamp equipment is defined to occupy an area between 25 cm² and 200 cm² and to emit light in the range of 400 ca to 1200 ca.

The ECE R87 had harmonized the installation instructions for daylight running lamps across Europe in 1995. According to section 6.19.4 DRLs shall be adjusted in the front not lower than 250 mm and not higher than 1500 mm. Minimum distance between the two DRL is 600 mm and the maximum distance to the outer frame is 400 mm. DRLs conforming to R87 must be dimmed when the low-beam headlights are activated.

There is also some information on the AA web site; http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/safety/daytime-running-lights.html

It seems that the VW, Audi and Skoda Group are fitting these already, presumably because it is easier and cheaper to fit to all cars rather than those sold in certain markets.

I personally think these look great but ....

have other drivers experienced being flashed by other road users who fail to realise these are DRL's and not us driving around in summer with fog lights on ??

it happens to me quite regularily ...

Also I am aware of several people that have been stopped and fined for driving (particularily in Liverpool) with fog lights on, have any drivers here had to have discussions with Officers of the Law regarding the DRL's being in the fog light cluster ?

The only Skoda sold in the UK today with LED DRL's is the face lifted Octavia VRS, other FL Octavia's, the Yeti and the Superb all use halogens located next to the front fogs.

Not quite true.

You can have LED DRL's as standard fit from Skoda.

They are on the FL vRS Octy, Fabia vRS and iirc from week 22 cars (don't quote me though) you can have the LED DRL Fogs (Same as Fabia vRS) on the Superb.

Here is a Screenshot from ETKA showing the same part for an Octavia

Screenshot2010-07-27at183235.png

They are approx £65 each from dealer BUT im not sure if that includes bulbs etc (although being LED i would imagine it is)

Hmmm,

I have an Octavia Scout. There was talk on the Octavia forum a few months ago that there is now a factory option to replace the standard halogen front fogs and replace them with LED DRL's in leiu of the fogs. They are as your picture (which I think is for the Scout), four LED's behind the same round glass lense that fit into the same bumper apperture.

I already mentioned the face lift Octavia vRS - they have a strip of LED's above and seperated from the fog light. FL (non vRS) Octavia's use the same set-up as the Superb, next to the front fog - but halogens not LED's.

I've yet to see or read of DRL's for the Fabia, halogen or LED?

Again, I've not seen or heard of any LED options for the Superb (other than the wing mirror repeaters and Far Eastern rear light clusters)?

So again, I'm quite sure the Octavia vRS is the only Skoda on sale in the UK with LED DRL's, I'd be interested to know if this has changed and if they are now available on the Superb...

I have a Superb on order, due September, and have asked the dealer when DRL LED's will be fitted as standard but they don't seem to know anything about them.

The new Fabia vRS has the foglight LED DRL's cant remember if its standard (I think it is) or I it was an option but they defo have them.

The pic I posted is from ETKA and is for an Octavia vRS or Scout.

EDIT:

Have a look at this link

http://www.skoda.co.uk/pdf/brochure_fabia_vrs.pdf

If you look at the standard equipment it says LED Daytime Running lights. They are the same as the ones I've listed earlier ( although diff part number before anyone gets confused )

Yep, your right, you can even see the four individual LED's on page 2.

The Superb must be next for LED's...
