I know it has been covered before but.....

Featured Replies

I have been having a few issues with hesitation about 2500-3000 rpm, I have replaced the standard Bosch recirculation dump valve with the forge one (FMDV007) and my next thought is the N75 value but before I spend out on that I would like to rule out a boost leak somewhere.

I have only had the car a month and I have a suspicion its been mapped but before I put it on a rolling road to find out (cant think of another way of telling?) I would like to sort out the hesitation.

Is there a simple way to test for a boost leak or could someone point me in the right direction of which pipes/hoses I should be checking as I have had a quick look and could not see any splits anywhere??

Have you cleaned the throttle body?

What spring have you got in the 007? Green for a standard car and yellow for a remapped one.

If it has been remapped it usually gets rid of the hesitation AFAIK.

If you can get a boost gauge on it (even borrow one) that will give you an idea if its been remapped or not, the standard boost pressure is 10psi or 0.72 bar. Remapped will be anything from 14psi (1bar) upwards

Yes I have cleaned the throttle body, I did that first.

I bought the 007 on Saturday, they said when I bought it that it does have the yellow spring in it.

If it has been mapped you can tell

But the only real way is with a boost gauge or a RR.

Got any fault codes?

Got any fault codes?

I don't have VAG-com but I do have an OBDII reader and that says there are no fault codes?

Does anyone know the location/which pipes are prone to splitting/leaking?

There are loads of pipes it can be.

There's the big diameter boost hoses between the turbo and the pancake (flattened) pipe in the wheel arch just before the intercooler, there's the pipe between the intercooler and the throttle body (behind the headlight), check all the hose clips are tight on those, There is a Y shaped smaller pipe under the engine cover to the right hand side of the engine, there are a couple of small pipes under the inlet manifold (you have to remove the metal plate holding the dipstick at the front to get to them) these pipes can crack or split, there are all the various pipes going to the DV and the N75 valve (the little box thing behind the DV with three pipes going into it), the pipe going from the top of the DV to the N249 valve... the list goes on

If you aren't too far from Thurrock I can come up to Lakeside one evening and check the boost for you, maybe even do a torque and BHP run to check it's performing as it should be.

Thanks, I will have a look at those pipes at the weekend.

I am only about 20-25 mins from lakeside, I would be most grateful if you did have a spare evening and I would of course give you a few notes for the petrol/time/tunnel etc. etc.

Drop me a PM what evenings you're free next week and I'll pop up.

Thanks mate, PM sent

Hi guys. Don't suppose you could keep me posted on how you get on with this. I am having the exact same problem and it's getting really frustrating now :(

Just an update on this, we found the car has been remapped, peaking @ 18.2 psi boost and holding about 15.5 psi, produced 207bhp and 223ft/lb torque on a dyno run in 3rd.

The hesitation was noticeable in 3rd gear under W.O.T. and felt like it was suddenly backing off then deciding to go again between 2500 and 3000 revs. As if there is either an interruption in the fueling or the N75 or N249 is playing about?

No signs of any boost leaks and no fault codes. Nick is going to try and contact the previous owners to find out when and where it was remapped and see if the remappers can take a look at it.

Thanks for your help and time last night mate it was good to meet you.

As said, I think I will try and contact the previous owner and see if he knows where the remap was done.

** UPDATE **

Just a little update on this, I sent a letter to the previous owner last week and received a call the next day from him, he seemed a genuine and nice guy which was a good start as I didn't think I would get a response at all.

He owned the car for about 4 years and the car did have a remap in 2008, it was is custom map done by JabbaSport and they fitted the Green filter at the same time, he has lost the graphs that were done at the time but said it was 212 bhp and 223 ft/lb torque so the figures we got last week were quite accurate. The Previous owner also said that the hesitation was not there when he owned the car which could well be the case as it was not there on the test drive or when I first collected the car from the dealer I bought it from and seems to have devolved since.

I did an oil change at the weekend and changed the spark plugs and it seems to idle a bit smoother now (although it might be in my mind lol) and had another look for any split pipes and could not find any.

The hesitation is still there so I might try the N75 valve next!! lol lol

I have spoken to Jabba Sport and they confirmed the car had a custom map in April 2008, that was about all they could help me with really. They did say that the hesitation could be the MAF playing up a bit but not enough to store a fault code? Has anyone heard of this before? They did say they could test it but its is to far for me to go really.

For the boost pressures you are showing a yellow spring might be too strong a green one might be better.

You could try taking the MAF off and cleaning it with carb cleaner

My MAF sometimes gives duff readings as it puts the BHP figures on my Liquid Gauge out, but the readings are never duff enough to raise a fault code or make the car run oddly.

As your local (ish) i have a spare MAF you can borrow to see if it recitfys your problem :)

Thanks, that would be really helpful, where abouts are you then? I didn't think there were any members near me lol

If you send me a PM with your details and when you are free I could pop round one evening or weekend?

In in Ashford Kent :)

Are you going to the SE meet this month?

****UPDATE****

I finally got round to having a look at the pipes under the inlet manifold at the weekend and I cleaned them all up and I have found a big split in one of the hoses, so I am hoping this is the cause of the hesitation.

Can someone confirm the part number for me, as you look at the car there are two hoses that come of the bottom of the inlet manifold, they are roughly in the middle and about an inch apart from each other, the one I need is the one on the right as you look at it. It comes of and bends down to the right. I have found this on another forum and I know the engine is not an AUQ but the part looks the same???

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/214055/1411032.aspx

My question - is part number 06A 103 221 BK??? As there seem to be a few with the same part number but a different set of letters at the end?? And does anyone know how much this should cost?

Thanks
