rear Electric windows...

Featured Replies

How easy is it to connect rear electric windows once their fitted into the car? do you need vag-com to program it?

or is it just a plug and play thing?

Wouldn't the loom need extending to accomodate the extra bits? Like the door controller etc?

so I'd need the looms aswell.... I think I can source them, hmmm...maybe

I'd assume so, never looked into it though.

Lummox/Ross Clarke looked into this for me at Unit 18 and it was STUPID money to do it, even with used parts. If it's a vRS, the rear door cards have to be imported from Europe, where rear electric windows were an option with the vRS interior. Then you need a complete new wiring loom so it works properly, plus fitting. Call it £1000 and you'd be getting close to the professionally fitted cost.

Some retrofits are easy, most are very, very, difficult to do properly.

£1000!!!!!!!! ouch!!! I've seen some rear electric window units on a czech site for £25 each...and a couple at the scrappy. I got the same door cards as the vRS as their black also. hmmmm I dont think I'll be bothering for that much money!

thanks though

you should be able to buy parts for 50 (scrap) - 100pounds (czech website)

if you have mechanisms in doors for electric windows (including door loom) you just need to check what color wires are missing from your original loom and put them in there.

if you have access to fabia with electric windows on scrap yard or somewhere else you can get all the bits needed from there. just pull the missing wires from the loom.

if not follow the schematics and connect them in the right place (usually fuse box and wiring loom next to fuse box). then you just need plastic trim with switches for driver's door and that's it...

i did electric heated seats, cruise control (from engine ECU), lights in the roof lining and 12V socket in the boot for my fabia using old wiring from another fabia and schematics..

everything is connected as orginal factory fitted stuff. no shortcuts...

the only problem may be sourcing the bits needed. i saw only few fabias in uk with electric windows in the back... most if not all of them fitted in Fabias before FaceLift (1999-2004) and usually with beige trim.

if you have all the stuff you should be able to do that in 8-12 hours. (depends if you have screws or rivets holding door panels)

in the hole where the mechanic handle seats you can buy special plugs. it doesn't look perfect but it is an option. or you can put leather on your door cards and it will cover the holes :)
