Capturing the moment!

Featured Replies

Having just acquired a new camera I thought I'd take it out for a spin and maybe read the manual afterwards!

Here are some 'frozen in time shots' that show the golfer practising and the ball and tee moving off together as well as a drop of water falling from the swans beak to the lake.

The technique needs a bit of fine tuning but as I said, first day trials.

Nice - The golf shot looked a little like a hook to the left, but it could have been the angle etc :D

Nice pics - loving the clarity

might I ask what camera it is you used ? :)

Looks a bit like a reverse pivot, hook could be likely. Nice pics though.

i like the golf series! the ball goes way off to the left but he stays looking forward! whoops

i know nothing of golf, just found it funny!

Some great pics there.......

My upmost apologies for not getting back to you about the camera advice had a busy week or two just recently with a bit of stuff happening at home at the time i was gonna get in touch. :(

Anyways which one did you go for in the end???

Cheers

Dave.

The pics were taken on a P&S Fuji HS10 which I'm evaluating at the moment. It does have some good features such as a 24mm-720mm 35mm equivalent zoom and 10fps. There's some other things which need a bit of getting used to such as only having 7 frames at 10fps meaning only 0.7 seconds before it starts to write from the buffer! Fortunately you can also control how many of these frames are pre/post shutter press together with slowing the camera down to either 3,5 or 7fps. I suppose I really should read the manual so as not to miss out on all the other features that it has.

So have you bought the bloody thing or haven't you ?

BTW - you might come across some VW campers if you were to go to the Elsecar VAG meet tomorrow ;)

I'll let you know when I see you next week Bryan.

Here's a 'splashdown' set which should have been better timed/zoomed etc but for having a dog trying to pull me in a different direction just as the duck was landing. Oh for the camera being able to take more than 7 frames at once! :(

I'm sure I was told that the camera would make me as good a photographer as David Bailey or maybe I just misheard?

Edit:- As Brimma hints at in a later post, the photos lack emphasis; so I decided to do a bit of cropping.

Nothing beats being able to get the 'right' photo initially though! B)

Are you sure there was a duck, or did you forget to clean the lens ? ;)

I know just what you mean :giggle:

In my meagre defence I can only blame the poor photos on this overweight bundle of fluff:-

After Brimma bowled me for a 'duck' with my 'splashdown' set, I thought I'd better try and make amends so here's the 'wood pigeon' set!

I think my spokesman has answered that one - are your close by ?

Fairly close, here's a photo taken within 4 miles of yours

I will have to keep my eye out for you.

There doesn't seem to be any EXIF so I can't tell what settings you're using, it looks like it may be worth really pushing the shutter speed though if you can go wider on the aperture or bump the ISO a little. I do love high speed shots though, I've been thinking about a Casio EX-F1 with the 60fps but I'm not sure how useful it would be without an SLR sized sensor and fast lenses as for super high speed shots you really need a wide aperture and be able to up the ISO even in reasonably good conditions.

I've also noticed that the hosting site strips out all the exif data which is also annoying for me when I look at other peoples photos John!

For your info though, the data was:-

Swans: ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/550s, zoom 340mm

Golfer: ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/350s, zoom 350mm

Ducks: ISO 200, f/5, 1/450s, zoom 230mm

Wood Pigeon: Not able to tell as I've only got the cropped versions and whichever program I used stripped all the exif out!

Nothing special was set up on the camera as I was just testing out the features and relying mainly on auto settings. The pictures weren't 'tried for' in the high speed context but just luckily happened to turn out quite good.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to be negative about your pictures - it's just I enjoy taking similar pictures and I found that by making a couple of small changes to boost the shutter speed it really made a noticeable improvement in the shots.

It never even entered my head that that was your intention John and any critique is always welcome.

In fact, it was only after looking at the shots on my computer that I realised how fortunate I was with the 'caught in time' detail!

I've noticed that about my pictures now i use Flickr rather than PhotoBucket.... I'm sure the EXIF data is still there on my shots i hosted on PB but now it's gone.

If ever anyone want's more info on my shots they can feel free to have a look on my Flickr page where all info relating to each shot is available on the picture's properties link. I was thinking of putting a link to my Flickr page in my forum sig but i already have two links in there for my car blog and my mpg. :o(

Cheers

Dave.

Went out to photoshoot some of my friend's labs this morning.

So that earlier bundle of fluff? How about this beautiful lass. A bit bigger!

855527075_nXQXX-L.jpg

She's so affectionate and wants to play with other dogs, but she's soooooo big that they're pretty intimidated by her!

Here's one of the better water action shots

Can i crash the thread too..... Some of our dog Sasha in play........

I love her eyes in this shot.... So wide open and totally fixed on the stick she's after.

4511547860_70e7ddcd53_b.jpg

And just caught her with just one foot on the floor in this one as she was running towards me..... She has a habit of carrying sticks like this..... I think she thinks she bloody Churchill!!!

4511548440_6348a529d7.jpg

And finally this one of her looking as though she's about to go head over heals!!!!

**edit** Issue with pics not showing should now be sorted..... :)

Cheers

Dave.
