Remapping 2010 encrypted/secured CR170 and TSI engines

Featured Replies

There seems to be a few enquiries about this across the forums so I thought it might be useful to add this information.

We are able to remap the newest secured EDC17 and MED17 ECUs with encrypted Tricore processors that are present in the newest 2009 and 2010 MY cars.

The Skodas with these ECUs are generally

2.0TDI CR 170bhp

1.4TSI

1.8TSI

2.0TSI

Do you do DPF removal on the 170cr yet? What are the gains.

Yes we can do CR170 DPF removal and the result is a good 215-220bhp.

Ben,

Can you do the STS on the 170CR yet? Thinking of the remap but I would want a switchable one between standard and remapped.

Hi Ben,

What happens should the dealer overwrite the map as part of maintenance?

Unfortunately there is no STS offering for the CR yet unfortunately. There will be a ticker tape parade once there is, trust me :D

We will always offer a re-flash FOC in the event of a dealer update

Any problems? I thought dpf removal on the PD170 gave around 230bhp, is this not the case for the Cr170?

yes but there are realistic accurate quotes and then there are just quotes

Does DPF removal remap give more BHP than a 'normal' remap?

What hardware is involved for DPF removal?

As I understand it, DPF removal curently requires the DPF to be broken open and the guts removed, then the DPF outer reassembled. I'm currently working with an exhaust manufacturer to get a bypass pipe made up. The by-pass should be the same for all CR170 engines (hopefully) and the price shouldn't be extortionate either. I think all that's required after that is to map out the light that comes on when the DPF isn't detected anymore, but Ben would have to confirm that.

And disable the regeneration cycle, etc.

I'd have to agree with vRSy about power figures though...

Yes the DPF removal does give more BHP due to the exhaust restrictions being removed and the ability to push the car a bit harder. DPF removal on the CR gives 220bhp, possibly a little more.

We remove the internals from the DPF leaving a factory look and generally keeping things a bit cheaper :)

That's the basic gist of it but it's not a two minute job, there's a fair bit of editing to do

JBS have dyno plots starting from PD170's at 220bhp - 240bhp depending on what the initial reading was. On the 240bhp plot the car was initially putting out 180bhp so they are still getting 60bhp from a remap and a DPF delete.

I'm really not keen on basically destroying a perfectly good DPF so it will cost huge money to put the car back to standard when a new downpipe should be less than £150.

Absolutely not going to happen. There is someone testing the aforementioned tuner's map against our map on their car, I don't know if they want to share their views just yet but our map is definitely quicker (and not by just a little bit) and we state 215bhp.

i highly reccomend you do some searching about JBS and their custom code remapping. after you've done that you will 100%change you mind.

you would need more than two hands two count the engine rebuilds they have caused

I did a small calculation, JBS remap on PD170 with their DPF removal injects 6mg/stroke more at 4000rpm with 4,8% offset in the duration (meaning that the ECU injects more than it thinks it injects). That gives about 15-17hp gain over a stock car.

On diesel cars, you can get a very accurate estimation of power gains when you know the injected amount and rpm. Even more so, when you know the stock amount and the difference to stock.

220-240hp on PD170 will never happen without serious dyno abuse.

does that make it fast then :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Hmm - very interesting. I've done quite a bit of searching about and lots of threads discussing them seem to have big chunks deleted. I suspect many more have been deleted entirely. I should point out that I was never going anywhere other than Mansfield for a remap, just that I wanted to keep my DPF just in case I wanted to refit it later.

Any news on this? There is lots of chat on the Audi TT forum that Revo, BSR, Hexup and others are claiming they can reprogramme the ECU via the OBD port. Is this possible yet?

Thanks.

No, not possible.

One flash tool manufacturer has suggested they can do it, but it doesn't work.
