Fitting of Fiscon Basic Plus Bluetooth Kit

Another tutorial from moi.

Usual disclaimer before i start:

NEITHER I NOR BRISKODA WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF YOU UNDER TAKE THE PROCESS DETAILED BELOW. YOU DO SO ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK

Ok some people have been quoted in excess of £100 to do this. Personally i think that is absurd and a rip off as the whole thing takes about 15-20mins including fitting the Mic.

To fit the Mic in the OEM position i used this guide Fiscon Microphone Install

Ok these are the tools you will need:

A T20 Torx bit

A Trim Removal Tool

P1010890.jpg

Ok firstly you need to remove the Trim around the headunit and remove the dash mounted storage box. Firstly open Ash Tray cover and gently pull on Dash Trim to bring forwards. Do it Gently but firmly DONT YANK.

P1010891.jpg

P1010892.jpg

Then using the Trim Removal tool Gently lever around the Edges until the Trim pops off

P1010893.jpg

P1010894.jpg

Next using the Trim Removal Tool gently lever up the Dash Storage Box. Once its free push the Hazard Light switch forwards from underneath till it pops out. Once it's done Disconnect and remove the Box

Next remove the Ash Tray by pushing it in at the recess on the right it will then pop up. Pull it out.

P1010900.jpg

Next pull up on the edge of the Gear Lever Trim again gently but firmly until it pops off. Once that is done you will see 2 Torx Screws. Remove these and then remove the Ash Tray housing and disconnect the Connector that powers the ash tray light.

Dash now looks like this

P1010905.jpg

Now using a T20 Torx Screw remove the 4 screws holding in your headunit and pull forwards. All you do know is disconnect the Quadlock connector and connect the Supplied Fiscon Cable (it only fits one way) and reconnect to the headunit. I then placed all the spare cable down the left hand side of the Casing for the headunit. Ensure you dont get wires tangled in the Aircon mechanism if you have Pauper Air Con like me :giggle:

Quadlock Wiring

P1010911.jpg

Now run the wires down the back until the connector and microphone lead connector appear in the space where the ash tray normally sits. Connect it all together then using a bit of Velcro to hold in place put the Fiscon Module in the Vast amount of space that is down there. Don't worry when putting the Ash Tray back in there is bags of room.

Next run the microphone wire up the Right hand side of the Headunit, Behind the trim across the Steering wheel, Up the A Pillar, Across the roof lining and then using the Guide linked above place into Interior light if thats where you want it. If not locate the mic wherever you wish.

P1010914.jpg

Once it's all done then just refit everything in reverse and all you have left to do is using VCDS code the car to recognise the kit and intergrate it with the Headunit

Any probs or questions feel free to PM

Comments good or bad welcome as always

I haven't :p

Follow the guide i linked at the Top as thats what i used ;)

Carl

Shouldn't there be original wiring all the way to drivers seat on vRS and L+K, where you just plug the unit where factory fit GSMII/GSMIII should have been?

You could get a job as a builder with timing like this Carl :giggle: -- i fitted mine this morning. Excellent writeup

Definitely getting myself one of those trim tools, long overdue! Fingers are still a bit sore from today lol

Where were you 4 weeks ago when I attempted this myself....... :smirk:

I had seriuos problems fitting the extension cord (the massive plug for the fiscon) when I did it myself. Everything else was easy....

Had to get professional help, didn't cost more than £50, but with this advise I could have saved a little.........

Good walktrough this

But: I got the add-on which shows turbo-pressure, true-speed etc, and my disply is white. happy with that :)

The Fiscon Basic Plus (which is the one i have installed) has this feature.

Turbo pressure though is only available on Diesel cars for some reason

But not on late 2009 FL models, which don't display any of the 'extra' information...unfortunately Kufatec didn't update their website until after I bought it...

Surely they can refund you some money or allow you to swap modules and refund the difference

I didn't buy it direct from them (although www.fiscon.co.uk claims to be the UK authorised dealer)...however the Basic Plus still allows for Bolero and Maxidot use, whereas the Basic only allows one of the two as far as I'm aware (but can't remember which!), so it's still worthwhile having the Plus.

IIRC you need the Basic Plus for the Bolero integration. When did you buy your kit? I ordered mine in January (the day after I got the car) and knew that I wouldn't get the extra screen...

Fitted the fiscon basic plus last week. Your guide gave me confidence to tackle it despite the wife's misgivings!

On the facelift models, there is less space behind head unit and underneath ashtray than it seems to show in the preFL cars, so it was a bit more fiddly but now it's up and running, it's definitely £300 well spent.

Thanks for the guide and thanks to Mute (Craig) for coding it to appear on the maxidot.

Evan

HI Guys,

Sorry to interfere in this topic but i see is quite active and my concern fits in to the discussion.

I would like to buy an iPhone cradle/Carkit or something that will allow me to:

-Charge my iPhone in the cradle

-Listen to ipod music trough the car stereo

-Answer the phone calls trough the car stereo (also by tapping the iphone scrren)

I don't care for agenda import or dialing stuff because i don't have bluethoot or sat-nav fitted

The car is:

Skoda Octavia 2 facelift september 2009

1.4TSI DSG7

Audio is standard SWING MP3

I have multifunctional steering wheel

i have no VAG conector in to the glove box

Is there something on the market that will fit these requirements and don't need me to install a expensive sat nav or drill holes in my dashboard?

Thanks a lot.

have you got any pics of your unit working on the bolero? Im getting an FL in sept/oct and am interested in getting one of these but im not sure what functionality it gives on the bolero. :)

great writeup by the way

Nice work Carl.

It's not cheap though is it?! Thought it might be a bit more sensible, compared with an imported OEM BT kit.

Steve

It's not cheap though is it?!

Richter Sport are open to running a group buy. Should be around £250 delivered. I see their website's bumped the sticker price from £350 to £500 in line with skoda changing the bluetooth price in the latest brochure! Co-incidence? :giggle:

but im not sure what functionality it gives on the bolero

- Normal bluetooth handsfree

-- Integration with maxidot / trip computer (dial, hangup, answer, phonebook, call up recently dialled / missed / recieved lists, settings & config (microphone volume etc.) )

-- Integration with bolero - same as maxidot, just much easier to use

- Audio over bluetooth (play music from your phone)

Missing features (on an iphone3gs at least):

- SMS

- Voice dialling (i think there's a way to make this work, but keep forgetting to check it!)

Hope this helps

To be honest Steve it's around the same price for an OEM BT module. You may be able to get some earlier B revisions etc cheaper on the Bay though.

With the extra functionality of AD2P & the E-MFA add on it is well worth it in my opinion

cheers for the bolero info mute.

Ive got an OEM BT in my car currently that will be coming out. Not sure what version it is but it was one of the originals from VRStu's groupbuys a few years back. doubt that will interface with the bolero so I may be better off selling it and getting a fiscon.

Just checked www.fiscon.co.uk, which is actually run by Richter Sports (according to my invoice from earlier in the year!). The discount code "scirocco123" still works, and makes the Basic Plus £315.35 delivered to mainland UK...not quite as much as the OEM kit.

I'm having a bit of hassle fitting this. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be room behind my Audience head unit to fit the pass-through quad lock connector. The head unit sits proud about 1cm no matter where I position the original quadlock connector. It's driving me crazy! Is the Audience deeper than the Columbus?

What fiscon unit will work on my car with the Columbus

What fiscon unit will work on my car with the Columbus

Basic Plus is the one required for use with the touch screen, the basic (no plus) only interacts with Maxidot

http://www.fiscon.co...tooth-kits.html

Would the Audi one be the same in this link as its around £100 cheaper

Nope, that won't work as it hooks into the Audi navigation system which is different from the RNS510 (Columbus)
