Pics of my vRS

Featured Replies

Hi

Finally got round to fitting my Connects2 interface today and thought i'd share a few pics and some of my experiences here. As i've got a 3Gs Iphone, the only Connects2 kit that works is the one with the 3.5mm headphone jack but things might have changed as I was looking at this about 8 months ago! There is plenty of info on this site about the basic fitting procedure so I won't re-cover that but can confirm that the glovebox does have to come out which is only 5 torx screws anyway. I got some removal keys off ebay for the symphony radio but found they were too wide so ended up using half a hacksaw blade anyway. i found it very easy to mash up the slots where the keys go in and accidentally managed to pull the 6 button off but it clipped back on OK. After a lot of swearing and jiggling about the radio will come out! I would recommend leaving the power and speaker connectors in place and just removing the blue connector so the radio doesn't lock. I bought a 3.5mm extension cable off ebay as the one on the Connects2 kit isn't very long and the wire is quite bulky and stiff. The lower plastic tray pulls out fairly easily and I drilled a small hole in the top to feed the extension cable through. As stated previously the Connects2 box wedges quite nicely in the gap behind the switch blanks next to the ASR button but again needs a bit of jiggling and swearing to get it in. Getting the radio back in again is a pain and involves a "Mr Tickle" like hand in the glovebox void to pull the wiring out of the way. I finished off the interface with an Arkon iPhone mount stuck on the roof of the lower tray. This setup is quite stealthy and can be removed making it look pretty OEM at first glance.

I've also chucked in some pics of my Palm automotive sunshades which i'm pretty pleased with. Not as dark as some tints and I can take them off it I want. I also went to Unit18 a month or so back and had fitted 312mm brakes, Jabba ARB, Cupra console bushed and Eibach Springs. Not got any plans to change much else for a while yet but might consider a re-map and a black grill surround!!

Anyone who wants links to the items I used just shout

Anyhow, the pics

I got them from here, not exactly cheap but very good quality and cheaper and less permanent than tints B) Note that the back shade is two shades next to each other (to prevent sagging so i'm told) and there is a vertical line running down the middle of the back screen. Doesn't really bother me though...

tints arent permanent,if you piddle a bit off the top then they can be pulled off and the excess glue cleaned with spirit wipe.easy.

Have just bought and fitted a set of the Palm UV window shades.

Perfect fit and easily removable if required. Subtle and a good contrast on a silver vRS.

  • 9 months later...

have you got a link to the connects 2 at all? is it different to the one for the 2000-2005 model?

Hi, the 2000-05 model will fit, something like ebay item 250485708567. It has been a while since I looked so I don't know if there is a better connection solution now which plugs into the charger port rather than the 3.5mm jack :)
