Decent match for caliper paint

Featured Replies

Apologies if this is a re-post, but I didn't find anything when I searched!

Whatever paint they guy I got my TT calipers off used wasn't really suitable, and after a year or so, it was black in most places, and had actually burned off some parts! It used to be that Hammerite Smooth Green was the answer, but it's not made any more, so I was a bit stuck. Then I read on a Saab forum about using Humbrol paint, and after some searching, I have found that Matt 101 ('Mid Green', I think) isn't a bad match at all. Being enamel paint, it should be better with the heat than the previous stuff, and one mini-pot was enough to give both calipers two coats (on the bits you can see, anyway - the bits round the back got one coat, or even none if I couldn't reach around enough! :o )

Anyway, not Earth-shattering news, but hopefully useful for someone...

I reckon that's what the seller probably did, which is why it all burned off - ordinary spraypaint won't cope with the heat, but other people's experiences with enamel paint suggest that the Humbrol stuff should be OK...

eBay is the home to much smooth green Hamourite

10 quid?! I'll stick to my model paint, thanks! Drop for drop it's cheaper, I suppose, but why buy more than you need? You pays your money, etc. etc...

Milotec.de sell Skoda green paint ;)

Yes Ebay is the place, only works out expensive when Will spills three quarters of the can you lent him! :giggle: Your model paint wont be hardwearing or heat resistant

Six weeks and 2000 miles down the line (and four doses of Wonder Wheels), I beg to differ. Don't forget it's enamel paint, not acrylic, so it's just like Hammerite in that respect...

hey £10 for that paint is better than a kick in the nads! as soon a i spotted it i ordered it!

even if it is a small tin will still go a long way! gotta redo mine. and will have 312s soon so will need to do them!

Get it while its there!

It has gone up big time my tin, from America ,including postage for 500ml tin was £5.99 in April
