What colour to refurb alloys?

Featured Replies

Nobody seems willing to take custody of my second set of Spiders so i am considering taking the summer to DIY refurb them into a brand new colour and either use them everyday( if i can convince the other half), keep them for track days, or sell them on again

I did consider going crazy but having seen the green and luminous orange ones that have surfaced recently I think i'll go a little more conservative.

I've been playing with photoshop and come up with the following:

Standard silver as they stand

Black

Black with Green Lip

Red(???)

Red wheel with black spokes???!!

I'd love to go with white but there is no way SWMBO will agree to having "fecking chavvy white fecking wheels" :)

Gold looks good though?!

Opinions

But white wheels are meant for red cars, Chav or not they look AWSOME!!!!

Choices

1) White

2) Black with red rim

3) Black

1) Gold!! (or bronze)

2) Black spokes with red

3) Red

I have silver (normal) with green lip on atm   looks v funkeh from afar.

P.S. how did you do that colour change on photoshop? I only know the adding opaque colour but im guessing thats not it.. :wonder:

I got the skillz :p nah it's simple really

time consuming bit is using the magic wand selection tool and a relatively small tolerance to select just the relevant bits of the image

then clone it out as a seperate layer

then adjust the colour levels to suit

i recreated 10 duplicate silver layers then hid them as required so the original displayed only the chosen colour. ie the red/green lip are the same layer just put over the black/white wheel layer

I like the black ones :)

Icic, layers eh.. thanks! will have a go at that v soon. Yeah defo gold/bronze is a good combo with red. If you like it don't be afraid to try it

Black with green lip might look good :)

To be honest you don't HAVE to do it with layers you could select the relevant bit and change the colour all on the background layer, but then you'd struggle to do any other colour without doing all the selecting again......

IF gold doesn;t look right for me i could always sell them on to an LE owner for a mock Imprezze Turbo look! :D

id say just black . try gunmetal or anthracite they would look good imo

Gold

White

Red

that would be my top three (be different and do gold)

Red wheel black spokes, the last one! Loving that.. If not, then gold! I really wanna see gold have a come back as it's fallen a little out of fashion and I think it's awesome on alloys!

How's about red wheel and gold spokes? Think that'll look cool and a little different ;)

Not white.. i like been the only red fabia on white wheels. (that i've seen)

But they do look awesome if kept clean B)

Hi, I have the same dilemma after having fitted my new alloys (Anthracite with red lip) which I love and think look awesome on a red car, I'm left with my original Fabia vrs alloys to be refurbished and cant decide what colour to go with ?.

In the past I've had Gold, Silver and Anthracite on a red car (I'll try and dig some images out for reference).

Alan

Hi,

Can't find the image of the wheels in Silver (natural), but here are the gold and grey (anthracite ?) both were professionally powdercoated. Looking at them now I really like the gold :-)

Gold? Looks more like dog sh!t brown to me ......

White or black works well with red tho'

You could sell your dogs ****e if it was that colour :giggle:

Maybe a bronze or something, or even all red :)

That red with black spokes looks the business

Holy thread revival batman!

ok having mullered my alloys thanks to nosiness and an incredibly large kerb I have once again ended up with 8x 16" spiders.

the least mullered of the 4 will stay standard silver for everyday use.

the other 4 will be refurbed DIY stylee by me over the summer and used hopefully for track days or if i can swing it by SWMBO replace the silver for everyday use

What are peoples current thoughts on colour?

I'm gunna get white primer and size them up against the red car at taht stage but i don;t think it'll pass the other half test.

I'm thinking maybe gloss black with red will work?
