whats the black box on the top left that feeds the egr?

Featured Replies

under the bonnet at the top left is a black box with thin black pipes going to the egr and i think the air filter

recently the noise this box makes has changed (its noisier and deeper when you turn the engine off) and ive noticed its pretty hot as well.

My question is two fold, what does it do? and what do i do with the wire that goes to the egr if i fit a delete?

its the vacuum box

Yep - N75 vacuum box. There are also pipes going to the airbox, turbo actuator, fuel pump and a vacuum reservoir (ball shaped thing) down the front of the engine.

Hi, yeah its the vacuum control box.

I had my car about 6 months and then all of a sudden once i turned the car off I heard this long kinda buzzing noise which lasted about 8-10 seconds then went a higher pitch @ then end. I cud actually feel the buzzing/vibration thru to the clutch pedal. I had a look under the bonnet, as soon as I turned the car off, and seen where it was coming from (black box as u mentioned) . I took my car down to my skoda dealer and the mechanic new instantly what it was and said the vacuum control box needed replaced - luckily it was replaced under warranty as its around £100 all in to get sorted.

I heard the noise, if i listened carefully, when I "reved" the car and I did notice a lack of power compared to now as its replaced.

turbo actuator ey...

If i unplug that will it stop the turbo from spooling without causing any damage?

my mate fitted a new turbo and every time i get to 2000 and up to 2500 rpm the car lets out a squeal, if i hold it there in neutral its a constant thing, i think he may have bodged a gasket or missed a bolt but it could be the new (ebay) turbo. The process of elimination is getting to me, especially as now he doesnt want to know...

I fitted an egr blank hoping that would resolve it but it didnt. :'(

I wonder if he got the pipes mixed up...
