;) each to their own I guess..

The above statement is just my opinion.

Although they do weigh more then a similar sized alloy wheel thus reducing your MPG and making your car slower. That bit is not my opinion it is fact ;) :p

I bought up every spare that came up for sale and I eventually got a full set for winter use for £30. As has already been said, every scrappy is full of them.

Has to be a Mk1 A3 as well, and Mk4 Golf.

alloys also bend very easily when driven over our lovely roads

I always thought temptation to goto bigger wheels which results in worse fuel economy and slower acceleration due to the rolling circumference?

in exchange for better grip (either due to fatter tyres or slower acceleration! :giggle: )

Buy proper alloys - doesn't tend to happen then. And good alloys can also be quite handy in that they're often lighter than smaller OEM wheels. Have a look at Compomotive and the majority of the OZ range.

Then go look what's used on rally cars - steel wheels or one of the manufacturers mentioned above? ;)

if you go up a size alloys tend to be lighter than steelies and with the appropriate tyres you maintain the original circumference. wider tyres would likely hurt mpg though, long term
