Key coding Octavia ll

Featured Replies

My dealer (VW) is having trouble coding the chip in new VW keys (one remote, one chip only) for my Octavia ll. He's saying the chip is different for skoda. The door access is sorted, just the engine immobilizer isn't (or more correctly is) working, ie, I can't start the car.

Can anyone confirm that the immobilizer chips are different for Skoda?

I have also found this link for PROCEDURE FOR MATCHING KEYS TO VEHICLES WITH IMMOBILISER IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OCTAVIA 1 (1U):

Is it a different process for Octavia ll ?

Have you replaced the transponder (chip) in the key? they can only programmed the once, so if you are trying to code a s/h key you need to replace the transponder.

Thanks for your advice gizmo68. They are new keys.

So are the chips different from VW to Skoda?

and

Is the mapping procedure the same for Octavia l and ll as linked in #1.

Did you buy the keys from a dealer and were they 'brand new' or a 'new unused' spare key from a car. The latter will still have been programmed.

Earlier cars (MK4 Golf / MKI Octavia etc) used the same transponder for all VAG marques, however looking on Hickleys website they now list different transponders for each Marque, the MK5 Golf (which the Octavia II is based upon) uses a TP23CHIP, whereas for a Skoda it needs to be a TP24CHIP (Seat is a TP22CHIP and Audi TP25CHIP) so it looks like you need to change the transponder in your remote anyway.

The procedure for matching the transponders is correct though. (for the MK5 Golf at least)

Both keys new VW from dealer. Thanks for the confirmation on the required chip. I didn't want to be fudged by the dealer.
