Front & rear N/S doors.

Featured Replies

Hi guys. Today I got hit (well scraped) down the N/S of my vRS.

A guy was coming to a stop at a side road, went slighty passed the line and caught me. TBH I only noticed it happened as My window was down and heard a small noise. Well I pulled over and got out of my car to see the guy/women (didnt see) drive off the opposite way. TBF I doubt they realised what happened. Anyway I didnt get the reg and now I'm unsure what to do. The damage is as followed - black bumper marks down the doors and lower 1/4 panel (maybe bumper), 1 small dent at the end of the front door 1 at the start of rear door and a small dent near the wheel arch on the 1/4 panel. some deep scratches and paint blemishes and marks on sill.

Now Im FC but being 20 and having a claim against me my composary excess is £300 (I think) and volentry is about £200. Factor In my rise in insurance next year, this could cost alot.

I dont really know what to do, Would you reconmend going through insurance and reporting it to police. Or buy some silver doors off ebay (seen the ones I need for 120 together and pay someone pull the small dent out and spray the bits that need doing?

Sorry for the long thread and poor spelling, just a bit shocked and confused :)

Thanks for reading

Stephen

Waste of time going to the Police as nobody was injured they won't be interested, but they will probably give you a incident number which you pass to your insurance. As your fully comp they should persue the othe party.

The wife had a similar issue a couple of years ago, where a car scraped the rear wheel arch while trying to change lanes in heavy traffic. He didn't stop, but the wife and passenger noted the reg.

The driver said he wasn't in that road at the time because he was in the Gym and had witnesses to prove it.

I would do it off your own back mate at your age the same kind of thing happened and sent my insurance rocketing up and it's not just the following year it's the next 5 years you have to tell the insurance about it

Ok, it's "damage only", but the other guy is still guilty of "leaving the scene without supplying details to a person having reason to require them".

Report it to the Police, and make a claim thro your insurance. You now have a case for a claim for redress thro the insurance industry fund.

wouldnt av thort it would be much more than 200 ish to put that right by your description...your excess is 300 so got to to better doing yourself..

Cheers for the advice. spoke to my parents and they said, well dad said go to the police just in case but sort the damage out yourself., as no reg or witnesses means Ill be blamed. Heres some pics. not good qaulity im afraid.

Rear door

1/4 pane, there is scuffed paint on the lower half

The black bumper marks appear to be coming off but the paint looks slightly lighter than the rest.

well dad said go to the police just in case but sort the damage out yourself.

This would also cover you if the other party decided to say you failed to stop. :)

sort the damage out yourself., as no reg or witnesses means Ill be blamed.

Having read numerous insurance policies, the wording is generally that if they cannot recover their costs from the other party, they record it as a fault claim. I've seen a few complaints from people who've had stationary vehicles hit, with the other vehicle not stopping, which were processed as fault claims. :(

Try getting a bit of t-cut onto it and it could sort a lot of the damage out, and then you wouldn't have the cost of new doors etc.

The damage doesn't look awful, it just depends how deep it is.

If I were you then I'd do it myself! I'm 23 and my insurance is plenty high enough, so I'd rather not make the claim and risk having the increase in insurance premium! Like others have said, your insurance would be higher for several years, so just do your best to sort it out as cheaply as possible!

EDIT: I'd also be inclined to say that you could get away without having new doors on that mate. Just depends how 'new' you want it to look!

Well got a couple of quotes today First one was reconmended by my dad as that where they take there work vans, are you ready.

£800!!!!!

Went to another one that my mate reconmended and they said £500. Still a lot but much better. Think I might wait a few months until I get it done.

buy some panel wipe and clean the panel down. this will soften the paint so be careful near the edge of the doors as you can take the top coat off completely.

then buy some rubbing compound, something quite coarse, again being careful with it as this is even worse, you should be able to reduce that damage to very minimal. If the compound is really coarse you might have to work up to a smoother compound, then polish...

i had the same sort of damage on mine and it all came off.

well, on the back door, bit of a dent but meh.

Wasn’t that lucky with the front wing and door though.

Dont go swapping the doors for different silver ones, you'll have to have them resprayed before they would match.

i didnt read this guide but the pictures at the bottom are pretty self explanetary. sod the shoe polish...

My link

oh, you dont need a polisher, nothing like elbow grease, you'll have the car looking perfect in a few hours i promise

Thats rotten luck mate, . Hope ya get it sorted fella :(

next ti me chase em down and sort em out

Report it to the POLICE as the other fella might also report it as your fault ?? all incidents should be reported within 24hours to the POLICE.

He/she must have sustained damage and may counter-claim from your insurance company for his/her damage ??

Keep photos and could present to POLICE as evidence ??

Insurance could/ should be advised of the incident in-case the other driver does make a claim against you, (not neccesarily you making a claim)

It is also worth to mention that by telling your insurance company and NOT making a claim, technically this is will be an official reported accident which will be valid for approx 5 years, on renewal of your insurance policy !!

Personally get car done off your own bat, and NOT risk doing anything official, but then it's easy for me to say, not being in your position??

Thanks for the adivce guys.

I reported it to the police, but they said because I didnt get the Reg they cant do anything :( .

Im not telling the insurance due to the fact I have a claim aready and a large excess.

Just a shame as most of the damage can be done cheaply but the rear doors been bent over the side protection bar.

Have to say though Skoda paint is rock hard. only have 3-4 scratches and 2 of them you can barely see.
