Little Mods part 2 :)

Featured Replies

Well after successfully fitting my LCR splitter and spraying my grill. I did the Elephant hose modn a few weeks ago. I think i can notice a difference in lower revs but happy that Im not getting oil vapour into the boost pipes.

Here's my attempt

Also today I took the intercooler of and boost pipes. only to find a few drops of oil in them lol.

But ive just read about blocking the EGR vaccum pipe. so going to do that tomorrow :)

yep we sang some hymn's and everything :giggle:

Now edited :)

its the crankcase breather that causes the oil in the intercooler...not the egr...still disconnect it tho...

Sorry yeah I know. EGR lets the soot in doesnt it? Ive posted in the other thread about the pipe you block off? What one is it and does it cause the CEL it come on?

its the small rubber hose that connects to the ufo shaped diaphram on top of the egr valve..it may cause the cel light to activate ..if it does you'll need the fault function in the ecu mapped out.

You can just make it out in your first pic...........see below

Where would the crank house breather vent to on ya bog standard motor then?

As in, for example.. a 90's 2 litre non turbo, but injection petrol engine..

I ask because they don't all vent to atmosphere do they? Do they just vent back into the inlet and it;s the turbo, EGR and Intercooler that complicate the matter?

From what Ive just read, you pull the vaccum hose off as alexandjen has labeled (cheers) and plug it with a screw of golf tee and cable tie it so it doesnt come off. Going to do it in a in :)

Hiya mate :)

Fancy posting a list of the bits you used and where you got em? mainly the copper thing to blank the pipe and the elephant pipe itself

Why copper though? Is it cos of the heat? Looks a bit naff, no? :wonder:

Hi. Got the 22mm copper end cap from my brother (he's a plumber) so he got it from a plumbing suppliers such as Plumbase

Found this site though http://www.trueshopping.co.uk/product/End_Feed_End_Cap_22mm/4688/50150.html

Bit of silcone to secure it.

The Hose itself is from halfords. Think its 19.1mm cost about £2.20 a metre. I got a 2m length.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_184617_categoryId_165746_langId_-1?cm_vc=IOV4PDPZ1&iozone=PDPz1

@ simonhutton1 - Nothing to do with heat, just my brother had it in his van. It may do look a bit naff but just simply spray it, or put the cover back on.

Ahh cooliies, just wondered how plumbing and mechanics became combined there. lol thought I was seein things. If it aint broke, don't fix it. No need to paint it really.

the intake can be blocked with anything...just improvise ..take the pipe off and block the hole or leave a few inches ov pipe and block the pipe...

Are you guys just venting to atmosphere? I have been for about a year, and my cars just been for a service, and he commented on the amount of oil that is everywhere underneath. Perhaps a catch can would be a good idea to stop the oil from softening all the bushes etc!

what bushes? mine vents to atmosphere at back of engine cradle...keeps it corrosion free...;)

I guess I will have to take a look! He just mentioned that all the oil could affect the bushes, as it was coating a few things underneath.

Shouldn't really be dumping oil on the road either, really.

Its certainly not a case of dumping oil onto the road, this modification has been done for a year, and only now a thin film of oil was present in certain areas underneath. No chance any of that oil will get onto the road, as its only vapour.

Its all sorted now anyway, the pipe had moved, so I have zip-tied it in a better location.

when i learned the car game with cortinas/capri's etc the rocker cover had 50mm hole with a plastic bung that was filled with wire gauze inside and it vented to atmosphere..:giggle:

hey guys, im just new to the forum and have been ready about. im a bit lost with everything so just trying to gather a bit of imformation if yous can help. just what exctly is this modification and what does it do? why do you block off that hole with the copper bung and pull the EGR pipe out? what exactly does the EGR do. im really really interested in learning as i want my car to be perfect and be the best it can lol i noticed the guy saying he noticed a difference at lower revs? what was wring in the first place etc? also where is the oil that is leaking coming from? is it from the pipe thats blocked off? and how can the guy let it out at the back craddle to atmosphere? to atmosphere it means just being released to the envirnment?

your help will be much appreciated, jordan :)
