Featured Replies

I went for a drive to Oldshoremore in Scotland last week. 1100 miles very well spent. Here are a few photos I took...

Boring ones of my car on the way up...

Aww, cute. Nice photos.

Was that first shot taken with your car in a disabled spot?

No, it's in an Able spot :smirk:

There's something ultra spooky here Nick!

On the very day that you posted your pictures, I just happened to be in two of the exact same places!

Hopefully you didn't stay in the Rhiconich Hotel (thankfully I didn't) which I thought was not only in need of a major facelift but it was there that I had my worst meal in the whole of Scotland.

Ha, that's pretty random. Did you see my mum and dad in oldshoremore? Red Volvo V70 and 4 dogs? :)

No I didn't stay in the Rhiconich Hotel. I thought it looked a bit of a dump. Did you eat at the Old School at Kinlochbervie? Damn, that was tasty.

Cheers Sarah. The weather was really good on the whole. Bit of rain, but then it always went nice and sunny again later in the day. The weather changes so fast and completely up there.

My mum is from Aberdeen , and we used to go up alot

Not as much as I would like , as Scotland has some stunning scenery

Nice one!!!!

No but it's funny that you should mention that as I was keeping a look out for them as well...........!

That location was literally the furthest north that we went and we were just taking in all the single track roads and seeing where they went to - did you venture on the 'Pass of the Cattle' near Applecross?

We had rain most days but in between there was also good weather. Only one day was really sunny and clear but some of the waterfalls that sprang up after the rain made up for it.

Which way did you go up? I went A1M > A68 > M90 > A9. Timed it brilliantly - left home in the afternoon and got to Oldshoremore at 11pm - 8.5 hours actual driving time. Minimal traffic on the A68 and A9 made for honestly, the best drive I've ever had - ever :) . A68 was great. Flew up the A9 with a gorgeous setting sun at a hell of a rate - was saved by a headlight flash from a white van man coming the other way around a corner after which was a crafty policeman with a speed gun. B) The last 50 miles (mostly singletrack), I saw literally one other vehicle - a massive fish lorry coming the other way. The drive back was in stark contrast, rubbish. Did it on Saturday and the roads were much busier and went down the M6 which was soul destroyingly tedious.

We went up via the A1M, A66, M6 and M74 as our first location was about 100 miles above Glasgow. After that if felt as though we went on virtually all the single track coast roads (including going on to Skye) to end up at your location. That was by choice though to get the best scenery and see more of the Highlands.

Coming back was probably the same way as you went and after the marvellous scenery and leisurely travelling, I have to agree it was pretty awful.
