ICE Upgrade

Featured Replies

My current focus on Operation "Get the car modded as much as possible before the baby arrives" is ICE upgrades.

My plan is to upgrade the ICE as well as possible and to use no boot space at all. :D

First was sound deadening (see my other post), then speaker upgrades and a sub.

Here's what I've done so far:

I already had the head unit

Front speakers were upgraded to Focal components:

Some bending of metal in the doors was needed so they would fit in!

I upgraded my cheap amp to a second hand 4 channel Rockford Fosgate:

I'm re-connecting the rear speakers and upgrading them with these Rockford Fostgate 6x4s. Again second hand :)

Next job is the sub and amp:

First job was to squeeze in the new sub amp:

Some cabling

How the other side looks at the moment:

Plans!!

The sub I have is a Soundstream Exact 10 which only requires a 0.5 cubic foot box, so I reckon I can fit that in the cubby hole without intruding into the boot space.

Going to attempt to build an MDF box, which will be a challenge as it's a weird shaped space. If that all goes wrong I'll have to learn how to do Fiberglass :D

Looking good!emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Got yourself a monster battery<alternator capable> just to give you that extra headroom?emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Can you still fit your OEM speaker covers on ?

Even before fitting my Kicker RS65's, I needed to fit a MDF ring to enable enough space behind plastic speaker mount.

I can now after some careful bending of the metal where the window runner bolts on! :D

Crafty move ;)

Was going going to do something similar, but then realised the winder rail & my kickers weren't going to be friends :S

Magnets just a little too big

OO yeah they're pretty chunky.

Mine just fit with some bending of metal :)

Those focal 130 a1 will sound good amped and with all the deadening

If you want to be lazy and buy a sub-box to fit, Autoacoustics do their Stealthboxz

I might have gone for it myself, but had already filled up the left side of boot with amps by the time I found them

Oo, interesting. They only list one for the hatch though. Boot sides are different.

I'll contact them if my box building goes horribly wrong :D

The Focals do sound lovely. And with the sound deadening I'm wondering if I really need the sub :)

But it's going in anyway!

Haven't thought about doing anything with the power source. Will see how it goes I guess!

Subs are worth the effort & loss of space. The completeness of sound you get makes driving more fun ;)

If you do find you're getting power drops after putting the sub in, instead of an expensive battery, you could consider a farad capacitor. £20-40.

as snow muncher said, subs ARE worth the effort, they make sound a component cannot.

G give us those kickers :p

Here we go:

Still some work to do on getting the trim fitted as it doesn't sit properly.
