Faulty Temperature Reading

Featured Replies

I think the temperature sensor that feeds the display in my Fab's instrument binnacle is faulty.

i've noticed on several occasions after the car has been parked out in the sun and the passenger compartment is like a furnace, that when the ignition is first turned on, the temperature reads only 21 C. !!! This is when the temperature has quite onbviously been in the high 20s for the days in question - confirmed by met office reports.

Once the enegine is running and the vehicle moving, the displayed temperature quickly climbs to what you would expect it to be.

Seems to read OK for temperatures below 21 C

Anybody have experience of this sort of problem ?

The temperature sensor measures outside air temperature and is located behind the front bumper, in the shade and low down so it's a reasonable indicator of the outside temperature. The temperature inside the cabin is measured, but as far as I'm aware there is no way to display the internal air temperature.

Ah that would explain it, as the car has been parked nose first towards a stand of shrubs. I would have thought though that , on the occasions that this has happened, the outside temperature would have been hotter than 21 C and the cabin well over 30C.

Secondary reason for asking is that I have been having trouble with the aircon working and wondered if the sensor that supplies the instrument binnacle display has any input to the aircon system.

Basically, at displayed temperatures above 20C the aircon will not supply chilled air no matter how low the dashboard temperature control is set.

Below an indicated 20C (As shown in the instriument binnacle) the aircon system will peversely and intermittmently supply noticeably chilled air

Aircon was recently re-charged and evap sensor replaced but to no effect.

Other posters have said the problem arises from a faulty temperature flap motor. As this is an labour intensive item to get fixed, i just wanted to check if thre was another possible cause.
