Can you programme the side lights to come on with the ignition

Featured Replies

Is it possible via VAG-COM to programme the side lights to come on with the ignition, if so what are the instructions.

Thanks in anticipation.

There was a thread ages ago I saw about taking a live feed and running it to the dashboard lighting, so I assume the same could be done for lights.

That said, I had mine set up so the lights came on when it was unlocked, and when I tried the side lights, it would only do one side at a time, and set a buzzer off, which I assume links into the whole parking/indicator lights, so I was forced to drop the side lights, and leave it with the main ones sadly.

*Edit* just read the first post properly!

Can't be programmed - would have to be wired as far as I know.

It should be possible to hard wire the sidelights into the ignition with a relay. Or how about some Daytime Running Lights (although most people see these as chavvy and/or pointless). Sadly the reality is more and more cars come with lights that are on all the time especially now that the law is all cars be fitted with them by a certain date. I fear those in black cars who don't put their lights on will be more vulnerable to accidents as the roads fill up with cars with DRL's and people look for lights instead of cars.

Check out my thread on the LED journey, theoretically can use this relay to link to sidelights..

Finally solved the problem.

I removed the side/headlight switch from the dash, working at the back of the switch I spliced into the thick Red/Black (becomes live when ignition is switched on) wire and took a wire to a remote switch (located in the diagnostic access area behind the flap) from the switch I took two wires each with an RS inline 4001 Diode (they are like one way valves) and spliced one to the thin Grey/Red wire and the other to the thin Grey/Black wire, this then by-passes the side light switch. I fitted Diodes just in case it created a feed back problem.

Note the current flows through the Diode and exits at the silver end, when a current is fed from the silver end it simply blocks the current from passing through.

This now allows all four side lights to automatically switch on when the ignition is on without using a relay and still allowes the current to pass through the original sidelight fuses.

Used in conjunction with 9 LED SMD T10 W5W 501 light Bulbs Ultra White this now gives you part high definition from single LED bulbs.
