is the break pedal too high?

Featured Replies

My wife has an issue with our 1.2 tsi DSG Elegance.

Basically, when she moves her foot from the Accelerator Pedal to the Brake Pedal she is unable to keep her heal on the floor.

This may sounds trivial but when she is trying to brake she tends to break too hard or not enough.

We had an Automatic Corsa before that and she had no problems with her heal being on the floor and she could negotiate the accelerator and brake easily..

But since moving to the Automatic Yeti she has found this to be a major issue for her.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Is it possifle to have the brake pedal lowered?

Hi!

My wife said the same the other day. She's quite short (5"2), and sometimes has trouble getting the seat adjusted properly.

After she had mentioned this I took a closer look, and the brake pedal IS a bit higher. It has never bothered me thought, but it would be great if it can be adjusted

The brake & clutch pedals are indeed high in relation to the accelerator. I have no idea if this is normal for VAG products.

I've adapted to it, but having been used to being able to "heel & toe" (I have a car racing background) I am disappointed that this is virtually impossible in the Yeti thanks to the pedal alignment. Having said that, pedal sensitivity is good, despite the layout.

I find the brake pedal lands right in the middle of my size 10s.

Would it be possible to bolt one of those aluminium pedal covers on to the brake pedal to lower it?

The brake pedal can feel higher to some people in a lot of VW group cars because they have floor hinged accelerator pedals. Drivers can then rest their accelerator foot in a lower position in relation to the brake pedal foot. This may be exaggerated in the Yeti because of the different seating position compared to regular hatchbacks / saloons.

Heel and toe downchanges are (or certainly were) wasted on VW group cars my friend. Due to emmisions control, the accelerator is electronically disengaged whenever the brake pedal is pressed. The only time that blipping the throttle on a downchange will work is when you are not also using the brake. I have not tested this on my Yeti but I know that this was the case with other recent models.

Yep, you are entirely correct! Tried it on a deserted private road earlier this evening by left foot braking and, yes, as soon as the brake pedal is subjected to any pressure, the throttle cuts. It's a bit disappointing, as I'm used to matching revs to the new gear when changing down, whilst at the same time braking. It's not a problem not being able to do it, but if you are well practiced, it does make for extremely smooth gear changes.

Ah well, the joys of technology!

If only poor Toyota had had this "technology" before their unintended accelation saga started!

anyone noticed there brake pedal creaks on pressing?....mines less than 2 weeks old and has really started to groan/creak etc..
