Chipping your Yeti

Featured Replies

I was told about these people by someone working for Skoda!

The interesting bit is:

"We offer you a highly complex electronic accessory unit that does only one thing: it optimises the fuel injection processes in your car without increasing the charging-air or common-rail pressure. "

Interesting. So it makes your 140 a 170... and your 170 into a 205! But how much are these magical devices?

Also are the 140 and 170 basically not the same? Why can't you then have a 140 to 205 magic device?

And the DPF? Does this still work with that?

But end of the day it is the cost that I'm interested in. If this is £2,000 forget it, if it is £400 or less... hmmm...

£850 for the 1.2tsi..............ouch!

:o

I reckon that a proper remap would be better and cheaper too. Don't like the idea of plugging anything extra in and fooling the standard electronics.

Yep a piggyback is not a smart thing to do, there is a lag from your ECU to the external devices ECU and then back to the car again.

Its usually ok but you dont know what CPU they are using in the little external box, the temptation to use a cheaper one and make a profit is too great.

Even if it was fast or faster than the stock CPU in the cars ECU, there is still a chance of it lagging behind anyway.

Im crap at explaining, but in short if you get a REMAP the tune/map is installed onto the original ECU and thus there is no lag.

When i say lag i dont mean turbo lag, i mean lag from the throttle to the ECU to the external ECU and then the engine.

The box can only increase fuelling (in the diesel cars) which means more soot which is a massive no-no on DPF equipped cars.

I'm not just saying this, but you really need to consider the problems that it could cause. A good remap is the only way forward.

I read that afther the chiptuning the 1.2 TSi has 125 HP. Exacttly the same as the original then, so you pay for nothing.

Last week in Spain there has been done an extended test, you can read the results here:

http://motor.terra.es/pruebas-coches/articulo/skoda-yeti-suv-55682-datos.htm

It seems our 1.2 TSi already has 125 HP and 195 NM (19.9 mKg)

Also very interesting testresults for acceleration and braking

That explains why these 1.2's feel so lively.....

So if it has 125bhp as standard (which i truly believe as VAG have done that before for insurance purposes) what does it get with the remap?.

There is obviously more power to be had with raising the boost, adjusting the fueling and fiddling with the timing :giggle:

Starting to be glad i got one on order now.

Interesting comments. So why do people say that this will produce more soot than a remap would? I've read on here in other threads that even a remap is now a no-no with a DPF equipped diesel?

... there is a lag from your ECU to the external devices ECU and then back to the car again.

So how does the internet then manage? Where computers thousands of miles away from each other can give you search results in 0.3 of a second or faster? And these are just two little computers chatting to each other mere feet apart? So this "lag" sounds a bit dubious to me I have to say. It certainly won't be enough for a human to notice surely?

Well its not always quick is it.... :giggle:

Sometimes i click and its slow, other times lightening fast.

Anyway its an ECU for your ECU which is asking for trouble really.

All a tuning box can do is increase the amount of diesel going in. A remap can change literally anything, including the most important thing - boost pressure. More air = leaner mixture and less soot.

0.3 of a second or faster?

The ECU is checking several different parameters (throttle level, air mass, temperature, etc etc etc) probably thousands of times every second to the determine the correct amount of fuel for every revolution (think 3000 RPM times 4 cylinders...), so every delay however small will most probably have a negative impact on performance.

Cool. I'm getting convinced that this extra box is not the way forward then for a diesel.

So can one now get decent remaps that won't ruin your DPF? Or do you get remaps that can work in conjunction with taking the DPF out completely? Or is that a huge and expensive task?

There are no remaps available for the 1.6TDI that I know of at the moment, certainly none of our tools support it and we have (IMO) the most up to date stuff. 2.0TDI is no problem at all though.

Ah good. So there will be no DPF issues. Yummy. And your figures for power and cost on a 140 CR TDI would be?

I would recommend you shop around, and have an idea of what you want from the remap.

Do you want straight extra torque / power increase, however this can have a detremental effect on your MPG anything up to 5 mpg, going by history on the Fabia vRS that had them. Also depending on how you drive it. ( my previous Fabia lost 2 mpg)

You can also have a map that smoothes power / torque and driven gently will actually improve your mpg up to 3 mpg.

I would strongly recommend that any remap you have done gives you a before & after reading from a rolling road so you can see what you are getting, mainly for your own piece of mind. Oh! & dont forget to tell your insurance ( some companies wont insure remapped cars).

Happy Hunting

We would safely get 180hp from the 140CR and the cost is £449.

Thanks Shark. I'll keep it in mind!

I am interested, at some point in the future, to have a remap done on my CR 170. What figures can you give for this and how much would it cost?

The CR170 is good for 205bhp and the cost is the same at £449.

Insurance implications???

Insurance implications???

Depends very much on your circumstances and insurer, give them a call and find out emoticon-0148-yes.gif
