Yeti 1.2TSI gearbox issues

Featured Replies

Hi

Im new to this site as of today.

Ive had my Yeti 1.2 tsi 105 since April and have done just over 4K miles. We are really pleased with it. But, is it me or is the gearbox loose on occasions especially when changing down. The gate doesnt seem that responsive, ie, changing from 6 down to 5 sometimes ends up in 3 etc.

Advice/comments are welcome as I dont want to go back to the dealer and end up wasting everyone's time.

Thanks

I'm very new to my Yeti, and also a six speed box, so I also fumble a few changes back down from 6. I test drove a 5 speed Yeti and found the reverse gear on that needed a lot more downward force to engage than my new car so have to be careful in that area also. I think I would have preferred 6 to be a bit more of an 'overdrive' for motorway cruising, which might have increased mpg even further.

thx Jeep

I had a BMW 1 with a 6 sp box before so Im familiar with it but even though the BM was a totally different car I just wonder if the loose feel is more a characteristic rather than a fault ?

I don't know if the 6-speed manual on the 1.2 TSI is the same as on the 2.0 TDI, but when ours went in for some unrelated work recently it came back with a new gear lever - which cured an occasional "clunkiness" which we had put down to a characteristic of the car. So mentioning this to the dealer would do no harm.

ive only had mine just over a week, and alltho the changes are smooth..i do sometimes go from 6th to 3rd...allltho i suspect this is down to having 6 gears and totally opposite to my focus....im sure i will get used to it...

I also had the same but found by not resting my hand on top of the gear lever and using the sides to hold it left or right between 1st and 2nd and 5th and 6th it was not a problem.

It also stopped me getting reverse because it takes very little down force to push the lever down and through the gate. also the gear lever is spring loaded to the center between 3rd and 4th

no problem just need to modify the way you change gear
