Yeti estimated range on one tank

Featured Replies

thats impressive.....i thought my factory fresh 1.2 was good to show 560 miles from new....do u driver everywhere downhill lol

Procedure:

1. Fill tank.

2. Roll downhill in gear for a couple of miles.

3. Take Picture.

Problem is that the hill is not long enough to prove the point.

The photo was taken yesterday in a Tesco car park after refuelling there. The car is averaging 59.7mpg and that is the genuine estimated range. No freewheeling down two mile hills required.

Very Good!

I've just done 430 miles from full to the point when the red fuel warning light came on (so ~70 miles to empty tank) pottering round Wales all week with a family of four and a roof box attached :-)

So quite happy with my Yeti for that!

I had the opportunity to do a little economy run this morning - 120 km on A-type roads with several small villages and many roundabouts. Airconditioning off, as the temperature was pleasant. 21.2 km/l or 59.6 mpg. Filled up and the range indicator showed 1272 km - 795 miles. Average speed over the distance was 68 km/hr or 42.5 mph

Mind you that was not a normal average, which is quite a bit less, and the return trip on mosty motorways brought the mileage back to the normal 16. something.

In any case impressive for the 170 TDI, and all it took was a gentler style of driving than my usual

According to the brochure the 170 is the most economical of the diesels apart from the 2WD 110

My 110tdi has now done 6000 miles in 2 months.

Average mpg over the whole period is 49.7mpg. That's a mixture of motorway, A and B roads and includes several long hikes including a 600 mile camping trip to Cornwall.

Best ever mpg journey was 60.3mpg through the Cotswolds on a 100 mile trip.

I don't drive economically, I enjoy the car, between 70 and 80mph on motorways, a 26 mile B road commute each day and I've also been known to race the odd Chav in a trevved up Corsa/Focus/Saxo away from the lights. The look on their faces when they see the arse end of a skoda - priceless!

Hey, Yetihunter, you'd better keep your eye on the road in front - never mind looking at faces in the rear view mirror. :D

Hi everyone

Always up for a challenge, I thought I'd see what I could do while on holiday.

On Monday, I saw 67 mpg average and 630 miles of range.

Today I've seen an average of 100 mpg! That sounds like over 1,000 miles of range!

The secret is exactly as Agerbundsen suggested in his earlier post, but in this case I went to the top of the highest mountain I could find, 2,500 metres, then we jumped over the edge and went downhill for about 10 KMs doing nothing but brake (in fact I used the hill descent control on a few occasions).

The average would have continued going up if not for having got to the point when we had to start going uphill. Interestingly a few years ago, my Fabia 2.0 TDi (105 bhp) went off the clock at 99.9 mpg average and stuck there until the average dropped below 99.9.

Back to the Yeti, my driving style suggests a realistic range of about 500 to 550 miles per tankful which is good enough for me.

Anyone else feel that on a long journey it's often range that has a greater factor on journey time than speed?

John

Hi John,

glad to see your having a great holiday.

That's an interesting thought which I would agree with and best of all with the TDI Yeti and my Golf 4motion before is that not only do you get 4x4 capability and an impressive range but you don't have to drive around everywhere at 56mph either to achieve it :)

When I drove down to Austria myself I only made two stops for fuel, the rest of the time if I wanted a break then I could pick one of the many lay-bys on the way down without having to think about finding fuel.

Regards,

TP

ha ha ha - that my friend has brightened up the rest of an otherwise dull 12 hour shift !!!

Today I saw a range of 560 miles (900 km) right after a refill, 1.2 TSI DSG, done around 2000 miles so far. Not bad!

More often than not I see range of 600 miles when I fill up but this reduces to about 420 within a mile, reality is that I usually have to put 38-40 litres in at around 360 miles.

That is impressive.

Filled mine up after a fairly gentle motorway/dual carriageway run of about 60 miles and delighted to see a range of 725 miles.... until I looked back at this thread.

However, I was not trying so could do a bit better. But because the 4x4 is heavier, I doubt if I can beat 785 miles! Very well done!

When it arrives I'll let you know.

Problem is, is that ours is still two months away emoticon-0183-swear.gif.
