In Dash Cup Holder

Featured Replies

I’ve seen these in dash cup holders and thought I’d find them very useful but the price is mental are they good quality and hold a decent size cup , or would anyone recommend them.

Very expensive for what they are, however I found myself needing one all of the time.

Small cups/bottles you place in it are held well, however large bottles tend to rattle and move all over the place.... :(

Not worth the £35 to be honset. I've seen a few people placing in the Polo cup holders which fit in the draw under the headunit. Much better, deeper and stronger.

I got mine cheaper from ebay, I'm glad I did it but don't think it is worth £35. If the Polo one fits and is standard in the Polo then getting one from a scrapped Polo might be a cheaper alternative. I agree with the above comments that normal pop bottles rattle around and can even fall out.

The lupo one is a double cupholder that sits under the stereo. Much better IMHO

If you have a DIN stereo, you can pop it in the top slot, like I did in Post 15:

Should point out that putting it higher helps stop it getting in the way of the gearstick when it's holding a drink, and also holds your drink slightly more upright. You will need to trim a small amount of moulding off the top to make it fit, BTW, but you can't see this when it's installed!

Decron, I'm sure you were expecting this, but how'd you get the vRS on ur headunit?!

That was about 3 year ago, you could put JPGs on the JVC head unit via the SD card slot. Fairly standard stuff these days but back in the day these were the daddy and it looked special.

Wicked, i remember those headunits, but never realised that was possible on them! Ahead of there time

For £200 which is what they went for in Halfords, they were brilliant and they are still only one of a few that you can integrate DAB into.

I suppose in theory any 1 din cup holder will fit - so long as the depth of the unit is small enough - anyone know the determining dimension?

How's about this: Coin/Cup Holder

Hi,

apologies if these are completely daft questions: (1) from having read some of the stuff, I'm assuming that DIN refers to a standard size of insert into the dash? (e.g. the 'coin box' is 1 DIN??) Right/wrong?? (2) Is there a particular technique to getting the current 'coin box' out of a Fabia vrs dash without trashing it? Any tools required?

thanks

DIN is the German equivalent of a British Standard (Deutsches Institut für Normung eV), and is the accepted standard size for a car stereo. If you buy a stereo that is too small for a standard DIN slot, you should be able to buy a cage that interfaces between the two.

As for removing the coin box / storage tray, you will need to get the stereo out first, as there is a ridge along the top that fits behind a lip along the bottom of the stereo. If you need help getting the stereo out, a dealer should lend you the special keys for nothing, or you can buy some Kenwood ones as they seem to be a good match...

That looks good - but will it fit? It's stated as 144mm deep in the advert but the current tray measues only 125mm internally.

Can anyone answer my previous question about the space availability without me having to find my Kenwood keys and take out the radio to check?

There is about 160mm of space front-to-back inside the dash, but you may need to keep some of this in reserve for wiring...
