AC condenser damage ?

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

My car warranty is about to expire on my car at the end of the month, so thought I'd get the hissing AC looked at.

I've just been told that there is damage to the AC condenser, so I guess this won't be covered under warranty.

Thing I'm looking for advise on is:

Where is the condenser located ?

How can it become damaged ?

Thanks.

it's the front radiator in the sandwhich in the engine bay.

Salt corrosion or a stone can do it.

Look through the grille and you will see the condenser in front of the radiator. Unfortunately I have had 2 in 93,000 miles. A bad design in my opinion as it seems quite fragile and gets all sorts of stones and debris hitting it through the lower grille apertures.

If it is not under warranty then consider a good aftermarket unit fitted by an aircon specialist and it will be about half the VAG price.

Thanks guys

The dealer called me back today to advise it is the condenser that has been punctured by a stone or something similar.

I think the quote of approx £550 fitted requires me to look elsewhere. I a bit annoyed that this wasn't picked up during the

AC service I paid £90 back in June..... The same hissing symptom was present then !

They also advised that the part is £2xx somthing, A quick look around and I've found a part for less than half that with a

12 month warranty, so just need to find an AC specialist now !
