just a quick update to let anyone who's interested, what repairs i've domne so far.

horn.

wire had been removed from the horn. so put it, which worked except it came on when i used the indicstors. replaced indicator stalk and connector.

problem solved.

headlight sometimes stayed on when all switches were off and keys removed.

changed relay.

problem solved.

windscreen washers not working.

pipe had come off the pump.

just refitted it.

problem solved.

windscreen ahd 10mm chip in drivers view.

autoglass repaired it free on my insurance.

problem solved. can't even see where it was now.

bought new original carpeted favorit mats for £7.50 plus postage.

very nice.

bought set of parcel shelf struts, which were missing.

found code for raio, although picks up a lot of interference.

fitted leather stitch on steering wheel cover.

fitted new front wiper arms, £1 pair from ebay.

fitted chrome exhaust trim.

had tracking done and 2 new front tyres.

fitted new drivers side mirror with glass.

fixed very squeaky parcel shelf, by wrapping some electric tape around the ends.

fitted new door speakers.

sprayed door cards black with cloth paint.

back to blacked door furntiure.

oiled squeaky handbrake lever.

fixed stuck rear drivers side door. used long nose pliers to remove screws then just pulled off, just lifted door pull lever and it opened and disengaged child lock.

fitted front and rear wipers.

replaced the washer wiper stalk just coz it was manky.

so far so good. car drives extremely well and should hopeful pass it's mot without any problems in november (although the seller advertised the mot was until december.

the only other problem was the V5 i was given had the car registered as disabled, so had a hrad time trying to tax it. in fact it was an old V5 and the cat was now PLG.

things i need to do are

some bodywork.

a new radio.

oil change.

the idle goes up and down a lot.

some scrappy boot/hatch struts.

need 2 waher pumps for the rear and headlights

broke the headlight alignment by mistake.

i don't think that's too bad since i've even had the car a month.

For parcel shelf hanging things use some poundland shoe laces and improvise some fixings. This will last longer than the ones from a Skoda dealer.

Not sure why the idle would go up and down for any reason other than temperature. Would probably be a good idea to clean the throttle body with carb cleaner (access under air filter cover), also a good opportunity to change the air filter if not been done in a while.

i cleaned the throttle body and it really helped. much more respnsive and tidy when driving now.

although when i just idled the revs were still at one and a half,

so i lifted the pedal up with my foot and they went down to just below one.

so it must be a sticky pedal or cable or something.

I had a throttle cable that was a little sticky. I sprayed WD40 into it while pushing the pedal down and releasing it and this helped.

thanks again anewman, that worked really well. the idle is now just below 1000 rpm and is no longer irratic.

i also fixed the centra locking not working on the passenger side, just needed a new pull rod arm.
