Alternative cup holder

Featured Replies

I just posted this as a repsonse in another thread but i thought it best to start a new thread as some may find this of use..

My solution to cup holder.. get the centre console cup holder that replaces the one standard one with the ashtray.

Buy... or in my case "borrow" the roomster cigarette/money holder .. the black cylinder thingy with a lid on top.... fit in place to the above surround.

cup holder:

roomster cup/ash tray:

btw when i say borrow i dont mean steal, mine was donated to me by my wife from her roomster!

So that would fit infront of the gearstick then?

As well as having that craptacular one behind the hand break?

doesnt it replace the rear ashtray? so its the one behind the handbrake between the back seats?

No the front ashtray....

It has fitting for a can / cup with space either side and also money holder but only takes slim coins.

Was made for euro market but its only £4.66 inc. VAT from the skodashop!

I can take a picture of mine if anyone requires to see what its like..

yeah get a pic up!

i thought there was one to replace rear ashtray aswell!

I love the idea of putting a cup holder in place of the (in my car useless) ashtray, as I'm planning on putting the transformer for my phone charger where the in-dash one would go, and at the price it's a no brainer for me! I'd like to see a picture beforehand though if you could possibly put one up...

It mentions on the websites also that they're usually for LHD cars, presumably this makes no difference to RHD cars?

with optional roomster cup/ash tray:

without roomster cup:

Excuse the mess, havent cleaned the car this week!

Cant see any difference in rhd or lhd, fits fine on my rhd car.

coke cans fit perfectly, taller cans or cups are a bit more troublesome due to the centre console getting in the way.

Also you will have left over the light from the old ashtray, i just tucked it under the new console surround

... plus delivery - which you can't assess the cost of without registering...

there is, its £17 from skoda though...

fits behind the other cup holder in the middle of the front seats.

I did this quick mod on the front ashtray within a week of picking up the shifty mobile. Takes about 3 seconds to change over an all!

Be aware though that it is only good for cans (and costa coffee cups). A can fits like a glove, doesn't fall over or spill, but anything else like a bottle of water will just fall over into the footwell! Larger cups like Maccy D's milkshakes are too big to go in there too as the bottom of the central console (beneath the radio) gets in the way.

I'm more that happy with mine though

Interesting....ho does the centre console get in the way, may I ask??

I quite like the look of it....I end to use one of the reusable Costa Coffee cups, which is about the size of a large take-out cup from Costa, so I'm a bit worried it won't fit.....if it will then it's a no brainer for me :)

Postage for me would be a frankly ridiculous £11...I fail to understand why a 4 quid cup holder necessitates parcel force to deliver it for me. Why can't they just shove it in a jiffy bag and send it royal mail? It'd probably cost a quarter of that...and I wouldn't have to go 12 miles when they inevitably cant deliver it because nobody is in...

errrrm..... like I said the larger cups are too big to fit in :S

I have drawn a very technical diagram to show you what I mean.........

Wow....just went outside and tested my Costa mug and there really is no space what-so-ever there for anything bigger than a can....how pointless :( looks like it's going to be the in-dash one for me then, at the expense of an unfair share of my wallet :(

Hi all,

Just installed the center-console one (thought it was worth a punt for a fiver, and I'm lucky to work opposite a VW TPS counter).

Not sure if I like it yet, the interior seems to look more basic without the nice flush ash-tray cover... might go back to standard...
