Steering Rack?

Featured Replies

Found out my steering rack needs replacing to movement on the o/s.

I have tried searching but it keeps coming back with dead links.:(

Can someone check if

TT rack - 8N2 422 061 GX (can someone check if this is quick rack) part number is meant to fit FWD TT.

will fit as i'm thinking of biting the bullet and a quick rack.

Can people who have done this answer a couple of questions.

Do you need TT tie rods or Octavia ones?

Has anyone any working links to this mod?

I need this doing ion next couple of weeks or i won't be going to Castle Combe.emoticon-0106-crying.gif

The one I've got is marked 8N2 422 055 and 1J2 422 105 and was off a 2002 Quattro 1.8T TT (225 bhp)

You'll need to fit the Octavia track rod ends to the rack - GarryC did a guide when he fitted his:

Get a superpro bush and fit it before you put the rack on, they're only about £15 and will save you doing it at a later date

i have a spare normal rack for sale jay if you dont do the tt rack.

I do think its a worth while mod though so if you can...do it!

my rack is the same one that jamie has, you def need the one fitted to the 4x4s or leon cupra r and not the lower power fwd models. Do change the rack bush too, i did, and also you can fit your tt rod ends if you change the arms on the rack to yours current arms, otherwise you can just fit new tt tie rod ends to the arms on the tt rack to your hubs,

Cheers,i have a feeling the part no.i posted is a normal rack and not the quick rack.

Going to have to have a good look at what to do and quick.

Will PM you if i need yours.

would be a good time to fit uprated wishbones too jay, have seen a few cast sets for around the 80ish mark recently, this IS a worthwhile mod and makes a massive difference to how the car handles...

I know,i know:giggle:

Just been let down on a set that were very cheap.

Think that will have to wait till next year as i really need just to get mine sorted for now.

Going to make sure it is the rack and not just the tie rod end 1st then start looking at cost.

Easy solution would be a full subframe with rack and arms.

i built an entire new setup off the car, tt subframe, tt rack, r32 arb, tt wishbones, fully polybushed etc etc, much easier this way, still have my spare setup to sell but saved me time as i could refurb all the tt bits in my own time of the car. let me know when you are going to do it, can give you some pointers, bowders is looking at doing this too at the mo.

truthfully however, i would do the wishbones and castor bushes before doing the rack, rack is cool, but sorting the handling is a better improvement if you can only do one.....just a thought!

i got a set of thoose cast wishbones of ebay for £66, there was aonther set around at £80 but the seller isnt responding to text messages, phone calls or emails so never mind his loss

:giggle: yeah that was me

those other ones are still a good buy mark, recon you could get them for £70!

yep will get onto that.....

good plan

Def factor in the castor adjusters, i know they are not cheap (around £70 for the pair) but are so worth it alongside the cupra r rear bush, if you dont believe it come try my car.

if thats the set you (sweedish)informed me about i dont think the seller will reply to be honest, i have had no luck with getting hold of him:no:

no there were 2 sets, this is another set i told mark about as i knew you were both after some.

im like a parts finder, you can mail me a finder fee if you like :p

seeming i didnt buy them that will be a no

so your good at finding parts eh? you might have a few pm's later
