Wipers Rubbing And Jumping!

Featured Replies

The windscreen wipers on my 05 Fabia Estate are jumping and juddering when working. I read somewhere that it could be that they were put on the wrong way around?

Does anyone know what the correct way is for them for the front and the back?

One of the wipers that judders is the front drivers side one which seems to have a built in wind deflector so surely the wiper can't be the wrong way around??

Many thanks in advance!

new wipers required.....

;)

Probably you need new ones, probably the rubber is too hard. Try to clean them first. Bosch, Valeo, Champion are good.

They are all new wipers - they were put on for the MOT last week! :D

I seem to remember an old post on here that if they are put on the wrong way around they will judder and rub, but I can't find it now - typical!

So I am just wondering if there is a correct way for them to be installed? Can the rubber bit be seperated from the springy metal/plastic bit so that I can try them the other way around? Sorry that description sounds like something a dizzy blonde girl would say, but I don't know how else to describe it! :smirk:

As far as I know it's only the rear that can be cured by fitting the other way round..

Mine used tto judder until I did this.

As for the fronts, I use and will only use these.

Not the best but reasonable price and improved performance over standard blades.

Aesthetically they are much better IMO Make the car look a little more modern.

Main dealer blades are cheap and cheerful, and seem to work bestl after a short while.

We have a set of those on the other halfs car for comparison purposes.

I changed mine and hers on the same day. I also fitted a polo rear wiper arm/blade to her car

and it's a lot better than the skoda one Worked well straight out of the box so to speak.

Mrs Grr reports that the oem Skoda front blades took a while to bed in so maybe

you just need to give them a bit more use. Interestingly the orange "replace" dots on them went

from black to orange in just 3 months... I've never had less than a year out of bosch blades though.

Its dead easy to fix this wiper problem, replacing the wiper blades wont cure it. I cured the juddering once and for all today on mine. The problem is that as the wiper blade wipes upwards it is tending to 'dig in' and thus jump as the angle at which the wiper is carried is not quite right. You just need some grips on the wiper arm and twist it so that the wiper blade follows the arm rather than trying to be in front of it. Bit difficult to explain but its like spreading butter on bread as the best example I can think of, you only can spread it one way with the knife and this is how the wiper needs to work!

also try cleaning the windscreen juddering and jumping can be caused by a windscreen full of muck and grime
