What do these boost readings mean?

Featured Replies

I have found that my boost pressure ranges from 1600-1700 between 2500-6500 rpm. I think this means my car has been remapped. Am I right?

If so has anyone any idea on my 0-60 and my bhp? How does it compare to car without re-mapping.

Is there also a guide on what additional car maintenance I should perform because of remapping. Assuming it has been remapped of course.

Thanks people

1600-1700 millibar is 600-700 millibar once you take off 1000 mbar for atmospheric pressure so that is equivalent to 0.6-0.7 bar

0.6 x 14 = 8.4 psi

0.7 x 14 = 9.8 psi

So I would say that is a normal car. Normal psi should be about 10psi but you may not have done the boost test correctly to get the maximum boost out of it (go from 1500 revs to about 4000 revs in 3rd gear and you'll hit peak boost about 3000 revs).

That said, it could still have a remap on it and just be making really poor boost because of a leak or something but then I'd expect it to be showing fault codes.

If the car is indeed standard the bhp will be somewhere between 175 and 190 and you can expect to do 0-60 in somewhere around 7.5 seconds.

Its been a while since I've done this so maybe wrong but........

I think its standard, 1700 millibar is 1.7 bar which equals roughly 24 psi

knock off atmospheric pressure of 14 psi which leaves you 10 psi, which is about the standard boost pressure of an RS

Like I say I may be wrong :)

Hey I was right lol

The minerals are still flowing around my brain then :giggle:

At 3000 it read 1700, we got similar results on each test. What 0-60 could I expect on a remap then?

The guy before had upgraded the air box and dump valve for no reason then cause I put the original back with 0 change in power. Wonder why

Probably for the noise, was it a cone filter by any chance ???

On a remap probably under 7 seconds 0-60.

He might have upgraded the air box and DV in preparation for a map. My car isn't mapped but I've got a 007P DV and modified airbox for if I eventually do get a map. The 007P is less likely to break than the original plastic DV as well

It probably was for the noise because it sound nice. I assume the remap will perform better at higher gears because is it really worth it for 0.5secs to 60 for the cost on insurance and for work carried out doing the remap.

Thanks guys by the way

Don't worry about the figures with a remap, it's how the car feels that's important.

you could spend £1000s on these cars and still only do 0-60 a couple of seconds quicker than standard. Written down like that it never sounds like much but it feels totally different.

Fair comment. How will it feel different because surely it's only power a remap can change

The torque is a lot higher with a remap, usually about 230ft/lbs or more instead of 175, so you get more of a shove in the back at about 2500-3000 revs. You also feel more torque further up the revs so at the moment when the car feels like you're having to push it at 5000 revs or so after a remap it will feel like it's still got lots more to give at those revs. Overtaking is a doddle

when i had mine done it was night and day in differance, before it didn't really go much unless it was 3k rpms or more and now it has soo much more even lower down the rpm range. tbh they wont feel too exciting in 1st gear as they are torque limited till a certain speed..

if you were say behind 5 cars doing 40mph and decided to overtake you would find yourself probly well over 3 figures by the last car (not that i could possibly condone speeding whatsoever :giggle: ) turned mine from a fairl quick car into a bloody rapid one

oh and i am finding an decent increase in mpg too (once the novelty wears off  )

can easily get 40+mpg
