Gear knob chrome trim flaking

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Wonder if any one can offer any advice. The chrome trim on my gear stick knob has split and is peeling away and feels rough now.

The car is way out of warranty so wondered if anyone else has had the sam eproblem and what they have done in terms of replacing?

I've seen some threads where osmone has changed the complete gearknob for an Audi replica but wonder whether I can just change the chrome piece or is that glued on? Seems a shame to replace the rest of the lever as that is in good nick. Cheers in advance.

Should have gone for a DSG - I'm not suffering from flaky knob syndrome ;)

I have got DSG but one needs to look after one's knob of whatever sort . . .

You could just go knob hunting on eBay, probably cheaper :D

Look for a salvage Octy2, for example - and ask for a knob extraction.

Handling the knob in a manual is also going to be far more wearing than in a DSG

Maybe your gear changes are a little too rough, and you need to learn to slip it in gently ;)

What a great thread

Skoda do a replacement item for around £5 (5 speed) 1ZO 798 001 for 5 speed and 1ZO 798 002 for the 6 speed 1ZO 798 005 for the 6 speed Vrs 1ZO 798 006 for the 4wd a small screwdriver pops the old one off and the new one clips in place simples.....

sorry to hear your knob is flaky.

BTW my replacement knob is OE audi, not an aftermarket replica.. much better than the rubbish skoda fit.

A flaky knob is better than a knackered box Brimmster.. :giggle:

Hi,

Does anyone know if you can just get the chrome part for a 6 speed DSG stick MK11, as I seem to be suffering from the dreaded flaky knob? :)

Part no would be great if you can please.

Seen the whole thing on fleabay but it's around £50!

Thanks.

Hi

had this problem on my octavia

brought replacement off skoda

removed easily with a screwdriver just cliped on

if i can find pat number will post

Sounds like there's a few hairy palms around (self included) judging by the number of flaky/peeling/rough knob ends!

Yes you can, mine flaked on my DSG and I sourced a replacement from Superskoda - http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/OCTAVIA-II/Octavia-II-04-12-DSG-gear-plate-RS-Facelift

They have a couple of designs, and I am satisfied with the finish, it feels and fits like OEM.

My knob is on a 54 plate and it is still in good condition despite some aggressive use.  :strong:    :D

Nothing wrong with my knob :-D

My knob has looked better but ive got a tungsten ring which scratches it all the time.

@tequilan

The mind boggles! ;-)
