Turbo cleaning Tdi

Featured Replies

Hi, I know it's been covered but I can't find it!

My TDi octavia is very sluggish and I guess it's been driven very slowly by the PO. One post suggested that the turbo should be cleaned due to sticking vanes.........how is this done?

Thanks

turbo removed, stripped down and rebuilt if done properly, heard of cleaning agents that are supposed to be half decent if the turbo isnt left too late

read up on innotec, i know a lot of the mk4 golf lads says it pretty good

Best way is to spend a day removing it and giving it a thorough strip down and clean. Also worth removing the intake manifold and EGR assembly whilst there and cleaning that up too. Removing the intake manifold will allow better access to the turbo manifold bolts I reckon and the turbo will probably come out the top of the engine. De-coking the EGR intake & manifold is also going to really help with the sluggishness too.

Before you go pulling the turbo out, you should check the MAF. It's mounted on the pipe leading from the air filter housing. Try unplugging it. If the performance gets better, then you need to replace the MAF.

Is the engine management light on?

Have you scanned for fault codes?

Unplugged MAF and car went much, much better .

Fitted new MAF today and car performance is transformed..............goes fantastically now!

Can't believe I put up with it's previous performance but didn't know how well it should go.[performance seems to have tailed off since I got it, presumably the MAF was getting worse and worse!]

Thanks for the input , folks

PS will check and remedy any fault codes...........turbo seems to be fine at least.
