Replacing Battery In Key Fob...Help

Featured Replies

hi guys..

i need to replace the battery in my key fob, as car only unlocks via key & door at the moment.

can i take the fob apart or do i need to take it to skoda? will it need re-proggraming?

thanks in advance

It just pulls apart. Comes in two sections. The one with the buttons is clipped together, and has a CR2032 battery inside.

And no, they don't need reprogramming.

Ok just get a flat head scrawdriver and put it in the small slot on the side and twist like so

Then put apart and you end up like this

Then if you look at the flob part you can see a rubber seal,

you just need to pull them apart like so

Then your done and just change the battery.

And do the reverse to put it back together.

Brilliant! I even had the right battery in stock in my spares box - that never happens!

Always happy to look a bit of a pillock in public, I just wanted to say that when you test it, if the little red light doesn't flash... you might have put the new battery in upside down. :giggle: I did, and it was only when I took the other key apart to double check this that I found out.

Just a quick note for anyone doing this, it's worth wearing a rubber glove or similar when handling the battery because the gap between the negative and positive metal sides is very small and the natural oils on your skin may bridge this gap and cause the battery to discharge prematurely.

Hi

Am new to this site. I have followed all the instructions to change the battery in my key fob remote for my Octavia  (really helpful and clear by the way). The remote still doesn't work; any ideas for next step?

thanks

I have had the same thing and even the battery didnt fixed the problem. Ended up with new (used) set of flip keys from ebay and reprogrammed them by mi self (lot of guides on youtube)

Is the battery new and in the right way around, new does not mean it will work may be a duff one.

From memory when I had to change the battery on my Mk1 Octavia fob it would not work initially.  After opening the car with the blade key and then starting the engine the remote function started working again.

My best guess (which could well be wrong...) was that the system somehow needed re-initializing and the keyed entry/start did that.

Its been a while since, but came across when looking - cheers for the pictures. Replaced battery but still not working. Out of 10 trips tp the car 1 attempt will work, all others is key to unlock. Flashes red on rcl when pressing and light on door permanently flashing every 5 seconds. Im guessing its maybe the rcl's coming to its end? (octavia vrs mk1 2004). Cheers cheere
