Diagnosing 1.8T boost leak

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just discovered recently of a tell tale hissing noise from the right hand side of the engine. So, just as a diagnosis with VCDS, what measurements/runs should be taken to prove that there is an issue and the prove that its gone after its fixed? I think it would be a useful exercise to show what the difference in figures will show when a particular pipe(s) have split.

wait, ...

how did you know your car was boosting?

Measure block 115 which will show actual and requested boost.

right hand side of the engine would indicate this was at standstil

was wondering how OP got the car to boost when having head under bonnet.

be tempted to say it's a vac leak if anything

Thanks Guys.

I had a second set of feet to help with the reving to show the boosting, but as you say it was happening at idle too, so a vac leak may also be a possibility. I'll throw up VCDS to measure the blocks.
