which is the best brand?DOT 5.1

Featured Replies

which brand of dot 5.1 brake fluid is best to get when fitting my new 312 brakes??

DOT 5.1 isnt always the 'best'.

Have a look at boiling points of various fluids, some 'super' DOT 4 is actually better than DOT 5.1

Castrol Response Super DOT4 is pretty good and I think Opie oils were doing some good deals on Gulf Super DOT 4.

isn't Super DOT 4 the same as 5.1? Castrol SRF

They just cross over I think and its up to whomever makes it to brand it as they wish. Its all basically the same stuff as it can be mixed with each other just performs differently.

I just put comma 5.1 in what a difference supose it aint been changd since new

Thats probably due to the fluid just needing changing more than anything.

Its a good example of what I was talking about though, Comma 5.1 has a wet boiling point of 180 degrees C. Where as SRF for example a Super DOT 4 is 270 degrees C

I think Motul make 2 of the best fluids around.

Motol RBF 660 with 325 °C Dry and 204 °C Wet boiling points.

Motol RBF 600 with 312 °C Dry and 216 °C Wet boiling points.

There is also EBC's brake fluid BF307 which (exceeds) 307°C Dry and (exceeds) 196°C Wet boiling points.

All three are actually Dot 4.
