aftermarket HID's

Featured Replies

i was interested in some aftermarket HID's for my fabia vrs and after lots of reading and forum searching it all seems to be mixed reviews, mainly they dont work in reflector headlights. i found a set for £122 posted so thought id give it a shot myself. 1hour45 later (after o/s light didnt work twice) both now workin and all back together and wow they even better than i cud of hoped for.

(post pics soon)

the kit shud of been £155 but got discount. if anyone interested and wants discount just let me know.

 aftermarket HID;s

Iv got a set, do the trick nicely. Some don't like them, each to their own and that. Tho I only paid £50 :-/ £100+ seems pricey

i got H7R bulbs and 6000k. bought from online shop didnt fancy ebay. not had it out on the road yet to see what its like. gunna set light levels at work tomorrow so i know i not blindin other drivers :)

They're illegal if they're in non-projector headlights.

Thats not strictly true ;)

I've had after market HID's for 4 years and not had a problem with them. I have 4.3k, which is the oem colour.

spent ages reading about if they are legal or not and it seemed a grey area. only time i read about ppl getting stopped was wen they were blinding other drivers or they had diff colours 10k or 12k woteva it is.

ill risk it, i get blinded by enough cars which have them factory fitted. the H7R bulb is for the reflector lens and mine still has the beam pattern, so all good so far :)

As Pip_vRS said - stick to 4300k and you should be alright.

Think the projectors either add or remove the blue tint, so the colours will appear different in reflectors. I've got proper ones and they're quite blue seeming (guessing either 6k - 8k - think a 'younger' person owned it before so surprised they're not bluer), but at £80 for the bulbs, I'm willing to live with it.

Projectors add a blue/purple tint, that flickers to the eye as it moves over bumps. I personally find that more annoying than a bright light source. 4300k is pretty much pure white, I bet most people would not even notice they were in there.

Hmmm...

I was considering getting some Osram Nightbreakers, but i can get a full xenon kit installed for £120 ....

What would the guys on here do???

Better bulbs or a full xenon setup???

From what I have read Osram Nightbreakers do what they say they do. I.e. break at night :D Philips xtreme power bulbs are probably a better option.

ISTR xenons legally require washer jets and self levelling actuators on the suspension. If I wanted xenons on a car I'd buy one with them factory fit myself.

I've got one car with factory HiD's & one with Osram Nightbreakers. The Osram's are slightly better than the standard bulbs but are no where near as good as the hid's specially on wet roads. I've just got an aftermarket kit at 4600 colour temp to replace the osrams with. It was recommended by another member & works fine in his car, seems well made & was under £50 inc postage. Hope that helps.

factory xenons ftw

I would dearly love factory xenons, and the next car I get will have them for sure. However, at this moment it time I can't afford to retro fit them with the whole kit, and even then, I'm still only fitting the headlights, I'm capable of levelling and washing them myself. Until then, I'll use the kit iv got. Been on the car 18 months or so, no issues with other drivers flashing etc. Just stick to white not chavvy blue ones.

Gotta love my 100% legal 100% rare factory xenon's :D

I want some factory xenons, instead i made my own custom headlamps, which id id guess are illegal, as there tinted (which is illegal) then I have some mega powerful bulbs (also for offroad use only) ...... strangely flew through the MOT though...so must have found a nice balance :D

think I may buy some xenons though.

Has anyone got any links to the HID kits they are running successfully?

Every single fabia I've seen with a HID conversion kit has been blindingly bright.

The worst was from literally miles behind (only knew after it had gone past) and the others are either just plain too bright or usually scatter all over the road.

It's particularly dangerous going down country lanes as the other drives all get blinded and it's quite likely to cause a crash.

If I hit a person with HIDs in their fabia due to being blinded on a country lane, I'd certainly go all the way to court with it as IMHO it's just the same as blinding a person with the lights not flattened when on the continent, only brighter.
