Featured Replies

just brought a set of cambus pro hids from hids direct.

do i need to have the ecu changed via the vcds to stop them messing up my ecu

2007 mk2 octy 1.9 tdi LK

You shouldn't do for the Canbus pro ones.

They should just be plug & play.

I have a 50w Promax kit from Hids-Direct in my vRS and they are plug and play so would imagine yours will be the same

OK on reading the fitting manual . at the back of the booklet it say not to wash vehicle for at least 15 minutes after useing the lamps.

i have headlamp washers on my octy ???

Law says you need headlight washers for them to be legal anyway? :S

Maybe it's something to do with static energy off the ballasts?

i no but i dont want to fit them if it going to damage the headlamps when i put the headlamp washers on :wall:

It may be so the ballasts do not get wet?

After all what happens when it rains?

They will be fine, I ran HID's in both main and fogs on my last car with no problems whatsoever over the 4 years they were fitted, you wont get water in them any more than you would with the standard bulbs

so if i put my headlamp washers on i could crack the headlamp??? :punch:

LOL...NO..They wont damage your headlamp lens. They only burn 35W anyway

BTW...The fitting of these kits is illegal..UNLESS..you have self levelling headlights as well as washer jets

so if i put my headlamp washers on i could crack the headlamp??? :punch:

No no.. it's the bulb itself. If you got the glass that forms the actual bulb wet when it was stinking hot then you would have problems.

Yes I know that, I'm talking about the bulb glass itself.

Don't forget that HID bulbs are pressurised to seriously high pressure (25 atmosphere for a cinema projector is not uncommon) so the effects of a slight weakness in the glass will be much worse than with a standard bulb.

I think personally that the warning is there to an arse covering exercise to cover the extreme case of some genius attacking a leaky headlight with a pressure washer, while things are stinking hot.

As you say, if it was that much of an issue you've have them blowing up left right and centre in the rain, which isn't happening.

BTW why in the fogs as you don't want them white, you want them yellow for use in fog.
