Anti-theft solution for Columbus finally available !

Featured Replies

a bit ugly and a bit pricey but a very good idea

Nice idea, but I can't see how mounted points 'pressed' into the dash plastic can't just be pulled out again?!?!

It's a bit fugly, and I'm sure it's not crowbar safe, imagine how much damage would be done getting that off first...

I'm imagining/hoping that the fixings are permanently sunk into a suitable immovable part of the dash, preferably something metal. I guess they'll be suitably vague about the exact fitting technique, for obvious reasons!

It looks like they've been rigorous and thorough with the design, but still don't think I'd go down that road. If I was really paranoid I'd probably get glass film fitted (which I know can be defeated) but it's just about making it suitably difficult for them really.

200EUR+fitting, It aint cheap is it? Not one for me I'm afraid, I couldnt be arsed fitting it everytime I parked up.

I'll just hope and pray mine isnt stolen!

1) Those mushrooms are just mounted into the surround, so will either come off with the surround, or more likely mean that you can't get the surround off any more to do work on it.

2) Be interesting to see how well they stand up to attack with a chisel.

3) I think that lock wouldn't stand up to a battery powered dremel for very long.

4) Even if the lock did, if you know where the mounting points are you can just drill some holes around each one and then freeze spray and smack it with something like a cold chisel.

Yes I know they say resistant, but if you can make it you can break it. Just like the drill resistant locks that are right up until you have the right drill bit, then they are gone.

5) They will still have broken in before they realise it's locked so might trash the car, better to make it bright yellow surely.

6) Do you think a crackhead is going to be reasonable? They will have a go anyway, trash the dashboard and give up, or trash the dashboard and get the whole lot and leave you with a bigger bill.

7) How much!

My guess would be that yes, given enough tools, time, etc a really determined thief probably could get round this. BUT most thieves don't like hanging round in the vehicle from which they're stealing - they want in and out in the shortest possible time and I'd imagine that something like this would take a while to get round and therefore could well deter if not all, then certainly a percentage of thieves.

Not cheap though

Still reckon security film would be a better all-round preventative measure. Yes they might still attempt it, but they will realise it's not just 'another car to break into' a little earlier into the process. Should hopefully avoid a trashed interior during the attempt too.

I'm sure film can be defeated too, but as ever it comes down to how much time and effort someone's prepared to spend doing that.

Cost of New Stereo Vs New Dash?

Let them take it...

After all 'resistant' and 'proof' sound similar but mean a big difference.

Resistance is Expensive!
