Hi Guys,

I own a 2005 Skoda Octavia Mk1. Ever since i took the car for a wash the car has got a few quirky issues that need some sorting out.

First of all the instrument cluster light does not come on if i switch on the lights. Repeatedly trying to switch off and on may sometime make the lights come on..this has been so for a couple of days and today i found out after switching on the lights if it does not come on all i need to press on the horn just once and bam the lights come on.

Also the passenger side lock no longer works if i press the lock key while inside the car. When i lock it, it goes down for a second but it pop right back up. But i dont have the said problem if i lock it using my remote lock mechanism.

The side rear view mirrors also have issues. If i switch to the right mirror adjusting it would cause both the mirrors to adjust but if i turn the knob to L and adjusting would move only the left mirror the way its supposed to be.

If any of you guys could shed some light on what could be wrong or if there was anyway these things DIY'ed it would be great.

Cheers
Yat

FYI - Im in India so 2005 Octy is Actually the MK1 octy sold in the UK untill about 04 I reckon. Its a 1.9 TDi version if its of any help...Cheers Again!!!!!

Firstly, the electric mirrors are designed to work like that. There is no fault.

The passenger side door sounds like it has a faulty door lock. It is probably one of the microswitches in the lock.

The only thing I can think of that may link the horn and cluster lighting is the x contact relief relay.

The relay is on the plate behind the dash where the headlight switch is. You can get to it by dropping the panel above the pedals. If it has a bad contact it needs to be replaced. I've seen this problem before - it drove me nuts trying to find it.

Another possibility is a bad earth - the most likely one would be the earth point next to the steering column.
