Won't be because the oil is to high, suspect a blocked oil pick up strainer.

yep sounds like a blocked pick-up, I wouldn't use it till its sorted or else your turbo may go.

Get it flatbedded to your nearest garage. It might sound expensive but not as expensive as replacing the top end if it's driven without oil going to it!

i had this at coombe in the spring, pulled my sump off to find a block strainer, cleaned it out and was fine until day 4 of the ring when it did again.

just replaced mine with a new one £9.41 inc vat from skoda.

If you're doing it yourself make sure you only put a very thin line of sealant round the top of the sump when you put it back on as this is what causes the blockages, people put too much sealant on it and it leaks into the sump and blocks the strainer.

I'd heard this. Has anyone had a blocked strainer that hasn't had the sump replaced? I was thinking about getting mine changed at the next service but it cost around £150 - £200, but not sure if its necessary?

No idea as the only two I've seen it happen to on here didn't own their cars from new so had no idea if their sumps had been replaced.

I guess it's something you might need to be careful about if you buy an ex job car as most of those will have had the sump torn off and replaced at least once in their lifetime.

it is defo the oil light and not the engine management light? My engine light came on and i thort it was the oil light  I pulled over and took the dipstick out to check and because its fully synthetic and warm i couldn't see any oil on the dipstick  so I topped it up got home and looked in the manual only to find it was the engine light. (Derrrr)

I removed my sump just to check after seeing another one do the same, sump was origional and fitted with the white vw sealer.. There was no sealer in the pickup strainer but it was almost comptletly blocked with carbon deposits (after 120K ).
really glad i did this as it would definatly killed the motor pretty quickly they way i drive it, so a word of warning lads it is worth checking even if you appear to not have the problem.
Doesn't take long to do really either

oil £32
