Fabia Elegance TSI (85) Pacific Blue

Featured Replies

Edit; By popular demand I've included exterior shots from a previous post :) Colour is Pacific Blue (non metallic) and she has the Elba alloys (no cost option)

Took some more shots this morning including a few around the engine, which appears to be quite an advanced piece of kit almost aerospace in technology B)

Opted for the steering with radio controls; pressing the thumb wheel acts as a mute button

Also spec'd the ESP Plus which included the Hill Hold (HHC) and the Tyre Pressure Monitor (TPM)

Elegance trim includes an arm rest, wife would prefer it not to be there gets in the way she tell me

4979384830_f534d6a89c_z.jpg

another option the spare; 195/55 R15 so not full size but at least you can get home on it.

Went for the Elba alloys as they looked easier to clean, now we have the car very pleased we did as we think they suit the car in the Pacific colour scheme but disappointingly Skoda have dropped the rear discs with ESP and now fit obsolete (my view) drum brakes.

My wife likes the 'basket' feature, can throw her work bag in there without it flying about the boot :)

Even without a cover the engine bay looks pretty tidy

4978779099_f1f44cebff_z.jpg

Surprised to see a blanket on the inside of the bonnet with a petrol engine

Been some discussion recently regard the inter-cooling system; looking through the lower grill you can clearly see the liquid to air cooling radiator with the separate A/C cooler above (with the engine cooling radiator mounted behind it)

4978780605_dd28a04430_z.jpg

This is the charge air cooler sat on the rear of the engine with clearly visible liquid cooling flow and return pipes in the cover panel

4978780877_e60bfe01f8_z.jpg

on the back of the engine driven by the accessory drive belt system is what I believe is the liquid inter-cooling pump

4979388118_38c64d3806_z.jpg

This looks like the high pressure fuel pump with the 'rubber' incoming fuel line and the outgoing stainless steel :wonder: pipe to the common fuel rail

4978781267_8ae014dfeb_z.jpg

The stainless steel :wonder: fuel rail under the wiring harness running along the rear of the engine

4978779793_a0f57feae3_z.jpg

The turbo; electrically actuated waste gate (cylindrical body and electrical plug to the right of the image) with the waste gate control rod disappearing under the exhaust manifold shield. Note also the oil pipe at the top and what appear to be two liquid cooling pipes from the inter-cooler system (assume to cool the oil bearings :wonder: )

Edit; thanks Jim H for informing us as to the fact this is a cooler for the oil system (located next to the oil filter housing)

Electronic (Drive By Wire) throttle body

Intrigued by this 'vib' mount :wonder: as it's not fitted into anything :wonder:

Looks very nice, and i like the Blue. Can't wait to get mine now supposed to be being built next week, white 1.2 tsi dsg. I think your wife may get used to the armrest I hardly notice it in the one i have or at least you can lift it out the way. Nice to see that they have soundproofing under the bonnet, hope mine has it as well. Only thing on the face lift cars if that in the boot where the basket is there used to be some carpet in the little squarish bit, looks like they have been saving costs there :S.

Looks good there TP. How does it comapre to drive against your Snow Monster? Ride / handling / noise........

Hi shrub,

will let you know later as I've not driven it much myself 'yet'. Going for a cross country run out shortly to Helmsley to try her out besides having an afternoon out of course :giggle:

very nice car. what about Exterior pictures?

Luvverly Jubberly....excellent car and thanks for the informative piccies under the bonnet..useful  Re the armrest I frankly find it about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike..when its down, you cant use the handbrake properly and when your cruising along the M-Way its situated too low to rest your arm...

If only VAG/Skoda had managed to squeeze emissions down just 1g/km less (to 120g/km). The road tax break would see this model being a bit of a no brainer for me.

Must say that the fixings used on the engine look very random (mixture of torx and star of miscellanous sizes) and some lot look a bit cheap and nasty (shallow dome headed bolts or screws - not very nice)

All these new engines (TSI and CR).......they havent been around long enough for me to feel confident about them. There are several Youtube videos complaining about the diesel type racket from the tsi engines - particularly on a cold start.

Xman

Know well the rattling referred to, cured mine by using Shell V Power petrol....

The armrest ratchets up to different positions. I'm 6ft and have my seat in the highest position and can get it to sit high enough to be useful. I agree about the handbrake though.

This 'tank' is connected to what I'm assuming is the inter-cooling pipework; for expansion maybe :wonder: only one pipe in non out

It looks like an oil cooler, like the ones on the Mk1, not a tank. Is it anywhere near the oil filter?

Many thanks for that, did wonder but now you said it makes perfect sense  and yes next to the oil filter.

Apologies external shots were in another post My link

I notice you have Continentals on yours, mine came with Bridgestones. How are they for noise? Tyre noise is the one slight disappointment about my Fabia. I suppose it seems worse than my previous car because it is so good for engine and wind noise.

Mines very noisy at startup, its actually more diesly sounding than our Superb 170CR, then goes almost silent.

So far fingers X not noticed anything like this, sometimes starts at high revs if it's a little cold but quickly drops back down and its whisper quite.

TP

Nice looking engine - wonder if the 1.4TSi fills the bay better.

Have you got any external pics of the car? Interested in what the colour/ wheels/ trim looks like.

Hi Fatbloke,

Conti's are no better I'm afraid; they were not to clever on our previous Corsa either for noise, although they appear to provide good levels of grip in most weathers. Not helped I suppose by the fairly wide and shallow profile tyre fitted to the Elegance spec.

Due to a puncture on the Corsa we changed the fronts to Avon ZV5's which were quieter but the grip in snow proved non existent, where the Conti's did allow some progress, although the Corsa had a more reasonable 195/55 R16

Oh possibly the heavy CDTI diesel engine in the Corsa but the wear rate was also high on the Conti's on the front end, will have to see with the Fabia and it's lightweight TSI.

Think this year I might invest in some snow socks just in case as I've already used up the spare space in the garage storing winters for the Yeti and my wife tends to drive more towards the coast where traditionally we have had less snow. Be just our luck to get 10' drifts out there this year

Cheers Plumber,

I think the width and profile are major contributors to the noise but they look nice  Also I'm planning winter boots this year as I don't imagine these will be too good on snow either.

Very nice, but black is still best. ;)
