Fabia VRS Gearbox changes

Featured Replies

Evening all,

I know there was a change in the gear box between 53 plates and 54 plates, anyone know when it was? Were 04's still on the old gearbox?

Cheers.

Flip.

Add a slightly longer 6th gear I think

Matt

I've not been able to ascertain an exact date but it appears to be late 2003/early 2004 - so probably 53 plate but some 04 plates might be involved too. If someone could ferret out a chassis number it would be decisive - and that must be covered somewhere in the parts catalogue...

No - much more different to that - check these out:

As far as I can tell, the revised 'box was introduced for the 04-plate cars, beginning March '04. I have a bit of a gap of unknowns, but I don't know of anyone who had/has a 53-plate with the revised box. My first vRS was a March '04 and that had the revised box. My 2nd vRS, a Nov '03, had the original box.

I certainly didn't consider it anything to bother about. I found the old box to be slightly more economical on a steady mway run, but that's about it. As a downside I probably down-shifted a bit more often when requiring motorway acceleration, for sympathy to the clutch and drivetrain.

Thanks very much guys. It's amazing what people on here know.

bit of a dumb question but is the same one that you can find in the seat ibiza sport 1.9tdi as that has higher top end IIRC

The new ratio box is HDS

unsure what they called the first box

The new ratio box is HDS - unsure what they called the first box

From THIS THREAD elsewhere:

FJW is Ibiza 6s gearbox (long) = FSM is Fabia 6S gearbox (long)

HDS is Fabia 6s gearbox (short)
