Rear foglights

Featured Replies

The Yeti will be my third VAG product in a row (when it finally arrives) and something that has always bothered me will be bothering me again with the Yeti - only one rear fog light. I spend roughly half the year in France where they occasionally have a touch of the the old 'brouillard' and 'brume', especially on autumn mornings. Yet the rear fog light will be on the nearside and, possibly, confusing to other drivers. This seems not only penny-pinching' but potentially hazardous. Does anyone out there in Yetiland know if the empty nearside fog light housing can be used to mount another fog light? Is there, for example, provision in the wiring harness to the nearside rear light cluster?

Off to France on Monday and praying for enough open service stations to get me back home at the end of the month.

They just need to be activated using vag-com

Hi! I have a new Yeti SE (1.2 DSG) 2011 model - I took delivery at the beginning of September so it is the current Build. I too would like to get the second fog light working and have investigated the problem. Here are the answers I have gained thus far:

  1. The nearside (left) has a bulb and reflector + a small "spade" connector already in place
  2. There is no cable to this point in the existing wiring loom!
  3. The lights are controlled by a small control unit - one for each rear light cluster

I have as yet not found the location of these control units. I suspect that they are digitally controlled by the vehicle Can-Bus system. I would definitely avoid trying to feed the left side from the right side lamp as you may damage what is likely to be a transistorised control unit, it will probably not be capable of handling the (almost) 2 amp load that the additional bulb would impose.

I have developed a small circuit that requires only 1 milliamp to activate a very small relay. By taking such a small load from the right rear fog light, it should not upset the Can-Bus or the control unit. The only problem now is to find a 12v feed down the rear end that we can get at and then feed a cable across to the left fog light. The Yeti is so well built that gaining access behind the panels without doing any damage is proving difficult. However I will persevere and post back here when I have a complete answer to the problem. If anyone else knows how to get at the back of the rear side panels, perhaps you might share the info?

In the mean time - Enjoy the drive through France and drive carefully................Hope this helps.....................

To those that have posted here and elsewhere that it needs to be activated by VAG-COM; have you checked out No: 2 above or are you driving a different model (not a YETI SE / 2011) ? If you have something different let us know and will try and incorporate it in the solution!

Been there - Done that - No joy!! That's when I investigated things for myself. Remove the rear left cluster; count the cables; count the connections - Answer = one connection missing! Even traced the circuit in the cluster and the fog is the one without a connection.

Unless Skoda is producing different wiring looms for each of the different UK models of the Yeti, then yours is likely to be the same. Easy to check - remove the left cluster etc above

Ok matey , have a Octavia! with VAG- COM activated rear fogs, sorry :smirk:

Lucky You! wish it was that easy for "SM" owners............Anyway will still continue my research and post back here when I have found the connections etc we SM owners need.

To ease you fuel worries, speaking as a Brit living in the Mid South West of France, I can tell you that we haven't had any problems getting fuel, though some garages impose a limit - maybe 50 Euros maximum - and others won't let you fill a jerrycan. So let's hope you have an enjoyable, safe, and worry free journey.

Many thanks for that, Allena. I'm heading for the south of Vendee so should be OK. Unfortunately not in the Yeti though, build week 46 should see it available soon after my return to the UK.

Many thanks for that reassurance, Allena. I'm heading down to southern Vendee, unfortunately not in the Yeti which should be available early December.

Cheers, Paul
